Resurrecting a name first used in 1949, Rolls Royce will introduce a new "drophead" to the range, with production set to commence next spring. Based on the current Wraith Coupe, a prototype was shown to representatives of the automaker’s 130-member global dealer group this week in Los Angeles — although the only images released to the public were of the 1952-vintage Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn pictured here. It’s one of just 28 Rolls convertibles to carry the Dawn moniker, all produced between 1950-54.

"Our new Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date," said Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, Chief Executive Officer at the private reveal. "Dawn is a beautiful new open-top motor car with a name that suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds – an awakening, an opening up of one’s senses and a burst of sunshine. It will be the most social of super-luxury motor cars for those beautiful people who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s social hotspots." While sounding over-the-top, based on our first encounter with the Wraith, the new Rolls-Royce Dawn should serve up an exquisitely engaging driving experience.
