Boasting a bit more power and edgier styling, the 2016 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS was unveiled in Detroit. Helping celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 911 Targa, this latest addition marks the first-ever match up of that iconic Porsche body style with the GTS performance package.

The heart of the new 911 Targa 4 GTS is the same 3.8-liter/430-horspower flat-6 used in other 911 GTS variants. That gives it 80 more ponies than a base Targa 4 and puts it 30 up compared to the current Targa 4 S model. Porsche says the extra firepower will let the GTS streak from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and hit 188 mph when fitted with the standard 7-speed manual transmission or make the sprint in just 4.1 ticks on its way to a 187 mph top end equipped with the optional 7-speed PDK automatic. Other standard performance enhancements include the Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Active Suspension Management and a sport exhaust system.

Based on the Carrera 4 "widebody," the Targa 4 GTS features a number of unique cosmetic touches, starting with its more aggressive Sport Design front fascia and tinted bi-xenon headlights that feature the Porsche Dynamic Light System. Matte-black 20-inch center-lock 911 Turbo S alloy wheels, Sport Design side mirrors and chrome exhaust tips are set off by a selection of matte/gloss black accent elements and badges. Inside, the Targa 4 GTS cabin features a basic black motif and is primarily trimmed in Alcantara – which Porsche notes weighs only half as much as leather. Rounding out the mix are highly supportive 4-way adjustable Sport Seats Plus that carry a "GTS" logo on each head restraint. On sale here in late April, the 2016 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS will start at $133,795.
