2016 McLaren Sports Series teased

While it won’t be unveiled until the second quarter of next year, McLaren Automotive has released a teaser of the McLaren Sports Series. Set to challenge the Audi R8, Ferrari California T and the Porsche 911 Turbo, this new "entry level" model will slide in below the recently launched McLaren 650S. It, too, is based on the automaker’s carbon fiber MonoCell core structure and be fitted with a version of the firm’s bespoke 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8.

According to the press statement that accompanied the photo, the new Sports Series "will be a pure McLaren, building on the credentials of the McLaren P1 and 650S, bringing Formula 1 technologies and know-how to a new segment for the brand." Although developed under the code name P13, the new McLaren Sport Series will carry a different but still likely alpha-numeric designation when it goes into production. Like the McLaren 650S as well as the 12C which it replaced, this new Sport Series lineup is believed to include Coupe, Spider and track-spec models. Even in disguised form, it’s obvious the new Sport Series exterior design bears a solid resemblance to its pricier siblings in addition to sharing their driver-centric dynamic character.
