Here’s the best look yet at the all-new 2016 Lincoln MKX crossover that will make its global debut at the North American International Auto Show. Even under a full body wrap, it’s obvious the production version of Lincoln‘s mid-size 5-passenger crossover retains a good deal of the exterior styling cues seen on the striking MKX Concept presented earlier this year in Beijing. Its sleek lines and flowing contours also recall those found on its compact cousin, the Lincoln MKC. As these shots indicate, the new MKX will offer LED lighting in addition to standard projector beam units and buyers can expect it to arrive boasting a long list of advanced driver-assist and safety technologies to complement its host of luxury touches.

Sharing FoMoCo’s global CD4 platform architecture with the new 2015 Ford Edge, the 2016 Lincoln MKX promises to deliver better ride and handling than the existing model. While definitive word on powertrains will have to wait until its appearance on the show stand, the new MKX is expected to come with either the 2.0-liter or 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine as standard and an optional 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6. Whether front-drive or all-wheel drive, the 2016 MKX will come with a 6-speed SelectShift automatic.

Based on dimensional upgrades found on the new Edge, the well-finished, well-appointed cabin of the 2016 Lincoln MKX is will provide more room for passengers and cargo. As we detailed two weeks ago, one of the highlights is the first fitment of a new Revel premium audio system available on all models and standard on the top-line Lincoln MXK Black Series.
