While a complete redesign won’t be coming along for two more years when this pair of popular 5-passenger crossovers moves to a new platform, both the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain will benefit a modest exterior refresh for the 2016 model year. Both were caught undergoing evaluation drives in Michigan.

Beneath its well-covered nose, the gray-and-camo 2016 Equinox sports a more stylized soft fascia highlighted by a slightly larger, reshaped grill that recalls the update found on the 2015 Cruze. While its finer points remain concealed, the Equinox revamp also appears to include a new take on the lower apron area along with tweaked head lamp and fog lamp designs as well as revised alloy wheels.

It’s a similar story for the 2016 GMC Terrain, which also features a mildly redrawn — but still bolder and more angular — front fascia that houses a classic GMC-look grille frame filled with a new-for-2016 insert. Like the Equinox, this Terrain-to-be also sports different alloy wheels and seems to have virtually no changes of note to its rear quarters.

Neither Chevrolet nor GMC has confirmed when either vehicle will be officially unveiled or to what extent any changes may be forthcoming to their powertrain, standards roster or optional equipment. However, both are expected to turn up in full 2016 trim at either the 2015 Chicago Auto in February or the New York Auto Show in April.
