While facts are few at this point, Buick has released the first teaser image of what will be sold here as the redesigned Buick Verano. Set to launch in China as the Buick "Wei Lang," the automaker says the latest iteration of its compact sedan was inspired by the Buick Riviera Concept presented in Shangai two years ago and captures the "design essence" of the more recent Buick Avenir show car that was unveiled last January in Detroit.

Being introduced into the Chinese market for the first time, the Wei Lang is viewed as a strategic part of Buick’s efforts to bolster its already formidable corporate appeal in that country to an increasingly important buyer base. Execs say the Wei Lang demonstrates Buick’s insight into the aesthetic preferences of Chinese consumers and that it embodies an "innovative reimagining" of the division’s classic design elements in a way that shows "the elegance and dynamism of its next-gen products." It’s also expected to set "new benchmarks for performance, safety and comfort in its class." We’ll know more soon, although it’s not clear how much Buick will actually reveal about the new U.S.-spec Verano at this point.
