Crafted in a run of just 50 units for the American market, the 2016 BMW M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition will be heading into showrooms here next month. This executive sedan is one of the most powerful and visually striking models in the automaker’s lineup and will match that visceral appeal with an impressive roster of comfort, convenience and performance touches.
The M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition is powered by a 600-horsepower version of the M5’s 4.4-liter M twin turbo V8. Those extra 40 horses come courtesy of higher boost pressure and a selection of “targeted” engine modifications that raise its torque to 516 lb-ft, a 16 unit bump above the baseline M5 engine. To make the best use of that extra might, the car also comes with an M Driver’s package that increases the top speed from 155 to 190 mph and includes a custom-tailored 1-day high-performance driving school in South Carolina or California.
Competition package standard
The Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition M5 also comes with an upgraded version of the M Competition Package that adds 20-inch lightweight forged alloy wheels wrapped in sticky 265/35 front tires and 295-30 rear rubber as well as custom programming on the M Dynamic Mode of the stability control to complement its lower, firmer sport suspension. The car is also equipped with the Active M differential M-spec Servotronic steering system, carbon ceramic brakes, adaptive LED lighting, and an M Performance Exhaust with carbon bezel.

As its name implies, this rare breed of M5 is finished in Pure Metal Silver. A BMW Individual color, it requires a multistep application using paint containing ultra-thin aluminum flakes which is applied over a Glacier Silver Metal base coat to give the car’s exterior a silky but highly reflective finish. The paint scheme is set off by a black M Performance grille. Inside, the M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition features full Merino leather upholstery with contrast stitching and M Multifunctional power front buckets along with aluminum interior trim and a “Pure Metal Silver M5 1/50” plaque. Other key equipment includes a Head-Up Display system, Navigation Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information, BMW Driving Assistant and Comfort Access Keyless Entry. The 2016 BMW M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition will start at $131,895.
