2015 Subaru BRZ Series.Blue Edition unveiled

While a much-desired bump in engine output will still have to wait, Subaru is gracing its sportiest model with a number of functional upgrades for the upcoming season. Highlighting the "what’s new" list is the 2015 Subaru BRZ Series.Blue model, which, like its lesser siblings, arrives at dealers in July. Limited to just 1,000 units for the U.S. market, this primo version of the front-engine/rear-drive coupe feature STI-branded body bits and distinctive trim elements that enhance both its aero and dynamic profiles while adding unique visual spark. Powered by the BRZ’s standard 200-horsepower/2.0-liter boxer-4 engine and based on the upline Limited variant, the Series.Blue model will only be available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Series.Blue in the spotlight  

The new BRZ Series.Blue can be had in either the automaker’s signatures WR Blue Pearl or Crystal White Pearl, with the build run split evenly between those two colors. Its STI-spec body kit consisting of a deeper front splitter, side sills and side-rear underspoilers adds downforce at speed while various underbody panels help trim the car’s coefficient of drag from 0.28 to 0.27. Other Series.Blue exterior tweaks include a set of 17-inch black-finish STI light-alloy wheels and red-painted brake calipers plus larger-diameter stainless-steel exhaust tips that it will share with all 2015 BRZ models.

Inside, the Subaru BRZ Series.Blue edition features Limited-style leather and Alcantara upholstery with blue leather seat bolsters and head restraints set off with an assortment of blue accent elements. Rounding out the remix are a frameless rearview mirror, faux carbon fiber center dash trim and a red illuminated STI starter button. Pricing for the 2015 Subaru BRZ Series.Blue Edition starts at $30,285.

BRZ gets better across the board 

While the new Series.Blue edition is destined to garner the lion’s share of attention, Subaru also has made several detail changes to the existing members of the BRZ lineup that bolster function and form. The key upgrade involves revamped shock valving that enhances ride quality and helps the tires maintain better contact with the road on rough or uneven surfaces. Also new for 2015 are Ice Silver Metallic and Crystal White Pearl paint choices plus a roof-mounted body-color shark fin antenna as well as the aforementioned larger exhaust finishers and a simulated carbon fiber dash panel. Pricing for the 2015 Subaru BRZ Premium with 6-speed manual transmission opens at $26,490 while the BRZ Limited starts at $28,490 — or $29,590 when fitted with the optional 6-speed automatic. Still no word on when an full-on Alas, there’s still no word on when or if a BRZ STI model will find its way into the U.S. lineup.
