2015 Renovo Coupe unveiled with 500+ electric horses

Silicon Valley startup Renovo Motors used Pebble Beach to display a prototype of its first vehicle, the Renovo Coupe. Quietly under development for over four years, this stunning GT is based on a factory-modified Shelby American CSX9000 "continuation" chassis with bodywork, underpinnings and cabin tastefully "reimagined" by design ace Peter Brock who penned the original Shelby Daytona Coupe that won at Le Mans in 1964. In place of a conventional V8 engine, the state-of-the-art Renovo iteration packs a pair of twin-sequential axial flux electric motors that develop "over 500 horsepower" and churn out 1,000 lb-ft of peak torque. Shipped to the rear wheels via a single-speed direct-drive system, that bounty of motive force will send the 3,250-pound fastback Coupe from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds and let it top out beyond the 120-mph mark.

Capable of delivering their full thrust in a mere 37 milliseconds, the Coupe’s motors are energized by a bespoke Renovo HVP 740-Volt battery that uses the firm’s patent-pending modular lithium-ion technology. In addition to improved packaging potential, the multi-element design facilitates optimum weight distribution which enhances the vehicle’s dynamic characteristics. The battery pack will have a nominal range of 100 miles, and can be replenished in 30 minutes on a fast-charger or in 5-hours when plugged into a standard 240-Volt Level II system.

Dubbing it "the first all-electric American supercar," Renovo’s CEO Christopher Heiser says the firm set out to create "an aspirational vehicle that demonstrates the performance, control, and excitement that is possible with EV technology." Pricing for the limited-production 2015 Renovo Coupe will start and $529,000 and pre-sales begin at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday. The initial marketing thrust will take place in California with first deliveries set for some time in 2015.
