Making their public debut in Chicago, the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.4 ES and 2.4 GT add a bit more performance and style to the automaker’s best-selling model line. As the name implies, the "2.4" refers to a new 2.4-liter 4-cylinder MIVEC engine that cranks out 168 horsepower – 20 more than the 2.0-liter four standard in the existing 2015 ES and SE Outlander Sport. Available in front- or all-wheel drive, these new 2.4-liter models also come with a CVT automatic transmission and will appear in dealer showrooms late this month.

Beyond its more potent engine, all that visually distinguishes the Outlander Sport 2.4 ES is black center bumper element. However the 2.4 GT adds LED turn indicators and black roof rails while enhancing the cabin with a power driver’s seat, power mirrors, a leather-wrapped parking brake handle and aluminum sport pedals. Two major option groups also are on offer for the top-line Outlander Sport. The GT Premium Package has a 710-watt/9-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system with subwoofer, a panoramic glass roof with adjustable LED mood lighting and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The GT Touring Package steps that up with leather seating surfaces and a MMCS Navigation system that includes a 7.0-in. high-definition touchscreen, 3D mapping, point-of-interest information and real-time traffic.

Pricing for the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.4 ES begins at $22,145 while the Outlander Sport 2.4 GT opens at $24,445. Upgrading to all-wheel drive will add $1,400 to both. The GT Premium Package bumps the bottom line by another $1,850 while the all-in GT Touring Package raises that number $4,650.
