Offering combined EPA fuel economy of 40 mpg when fitted with the optional continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage remains the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid vehicle on sale in the U.S. As in 2014, the Mirage CVT also carries over its stellar 37/44 mpg city/highway ratings. Opt for this 5-door subcompact hatch with the standard 5-speed manual gearbox, and the Mirage still earns an impressive 37-mpg combined stat and 34/42 mpg city/highway marks.

In addition to its fuel frugality, the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage also remains a fairly compelling value. While the 2015 Nissan Versa Sedan continues to be the most affordable new car with a starting sticker of $12,800, the well-equipped Mirage DE opens at $13,805 – a figure that also carries over from 2014. The upline Mirage ES starts at $15,105 – a bump of $100 from last year. All Mirages get new chrome interior accent trim and a rear-mounted mini-pole antenna, with the Mirage ES line has upgraded seat fabrics and new side mirrors with built-in turn signal indicators. No changes underhood, where the Mirage’s 1.2-liter MIVAC-enhanced (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) 3-cylinder engine continues to make 74 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of peak torque.
