It’s been 20 years since the McLaren F1 GTR raced to an overall victory in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans – an event where it also claimed 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th spots. To celebrate that feat, the automaker – specifically its McLaren Special Operations wing — has created a unique version of the current 650S that borrows a number of distinctive visual cues from the iconic F1 model that began life as a street car but was transformed into a successful GT racer.

Developed in collaboration with the F1’s original designer, Peter Stevens, MSO will produce 50 of the McLaren 650S Le Mans Limited Edition for the world market. All will be coupes finished in metallic Sarthe Grey, a color inspired by the race-winner’s livery, set off with McLaren Orange accents. The most obvious homage to the F1 GTR is a roof-mounted snorkel scoop that ships air to the mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin-turbo McLaren V8 that continues to make 641 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque as it does in the standard 650S. However, the Le Mans variants also get a bespoke carbon fiber front splitter and rear bumper, subtle but functional front fender louvers, extended side sills and a trick rear diffuser, all courtesy of MSO. These exclusive 650S cars ride on unique Le Mans Edition lightweight alloy wheels — 19-inch front/20-inch rear – styled to recall rims fitted to the F1 GTR and wrapped in McLaren-spec Pirelli P Zero Corsa performance tires. Stopping chores are handled by standard carbon-ceramic brakes.

Inside, the McLaren 650S Le Mans Limited Edition is trimmed in black leather and Alcantara with McLaren Orange Alcantara seating surfaces on it torso-hugging sport buckets. Other distinctive touches include a "Le Mans" logo on the headrests and floor mats as well as a special badge on the door panel. Global pricing for the 2015 McLaren 650S Le Mans Limited Edition has been set at £244,500 – that’s $382,260 at today’s rate – and deliveries will start this summer. The figure also includes an exclusive invitation for the buyer and a guest to join McLaren for a 20th anniversary celebration of the firm’s historic victory at the Le Mans circuit.
