As the last major show of the calendar year, the Los Angeles Auto Show will have its share of debuts that will feature vehicles geared towards both family hauling and open air driving. The former will include both sedans and crossover SUVs, while the latter includes 2-seaters and…crossover SUVs.
Much anticipated among the debuts is the 2017 Buick LaCrosse, which will feature not only new styling for the division’s largest 4-door sedan, but also repositioning further upmarket thanks to its sharing of platform bits with the 2017 Cadillac CT6.
In the SUV segment, Mazda will show its next generation of its largest model, the CX-9. In addition to swoopy styling, the redesigned crossover will again sport three rows for its passengers. Mercedes-Benz is set for the world debut of the GLS-Class, its full-size SUV which mimics S-Class features and luxury on the truck side of the ledger. Infiniti will present the production version of the QX30 while Volkswagen will likely bring its facelifted Tiguan from Frankfurt to Los Angeles and may show a long wheelbase 3-row version it plans to build in Mexico. Spy photos of a freshened Escape also point to it making its debut at the L.A. Convention Center. Meanwhile, Cadillac’s XT5 replacement of the SRX will come to California fresh off its unveiling at the Dubai Motor Show.
As for fun in the sun, Fiat is expected to show its 124 Spider, the 2-seat roadster derived from the MX-5 Miata and built by the Japanese automaker in Hiroshima. Land Rover will pull the covers off the Range Rover Evoque convertible, showing that crossover SUVs can also get in on the drop-top action. And fresh from Tokyo, MINI will have its 4-passenger convertible version of the Hardtop.
Other world debuts on tap include a remade Nissan Sentra, Mitsubishi’s facelifted Mirage 5-door and new Outlander Sport while making their first auto show appearances, the Audi RS7 Sport Performance Model and Hyundai Elantra. Porsche is set to launch the Cayman GT4 and a limited edition Macan.
First time North American debuts include the Scion C-HR concept crossover SUV shown twice in Europe as a Toyota, the Audi R8 Plus and S8 Plus and the Subaru Impreza 5-door concept, which bowed in Tokyo.
While no major surprises are expected, one never knows what will make an appearance during the Nov. 18-19 press days. Check back as the story develops.
