2015 Ford Mustang production begins

The eagerly awaited 2015 Ford Mustang moved one step closer to reality today as the first of the redesigned models began rolling down the assembly line at Ford‘s facility in Flat Rock, Michigan. In addition to its debut this fall in U.S. showrooms, the sixth-generation Mustang will be the first in the car’s celebrated 50-year history to be sold globally starting next year. Set to make new friends in over 120 countries, it also will be the first time this iconic pony car can be had in right-hand-drive.

Three engines offered

As Ford confirmed when the 2015 Mustang was officially revealed last December, the newest version will offer three engine choices. Base cars will use a carryover 3.7-liter V6 that makes 300 horsepower while the Mustang’s first-ever EcoBoost engine – a new 2.3-liter 4-cylinder that cranks out 310 horses — will be the step-up alternative. Topping the range at launch will be the Mustang GT that packs an upgraded version of the existing 5.0-liter V8 that boosts power from 420 to 435 horsepower but promises to deliver even better fuel economy.

Pricing for the 2015 Ford Mustang V6 Coupe will start at $24,425 with the EcoBoost model opening at $25,995 and a top-line Premium-spec Mustang GT commanding $36,925. Drop-top versions of the car slated to go on sale several months after their closed siblings will start at $29,925 for a Mustang V6 Premium with the EcoBoost Premium variant commencing at $32,935 and the V8 GT Premium Convertible listing at $42,425. Replacing the 6-speed manual transmission with the optional 6-speed automatic will bump any of the entry prices by $1,195.
