2015 Acura TLX Prototype to debut in Detroit

Although there’s nothing to show yet but this new badge, we now have confirmation that the 2015 Acura TLX Prototype will have its public unveiling next month at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The production version of this mid-size performance-luxury sedan will effectively replace the current Acura TL model when it arrives in showrooms here during the second half of 2014. If tradition holds — and there’s every reason to suspect it will – the volume-build version should be very close to the one-off that appears in Detroit.

Set to slot between the ILX and RLX in the automaker’s future three-sedan hierarchy, the new Acura TLX promises to deliver a solid mix of style and spirit, offering what Mike Accavitti, senior vice president, American Honda Motor, Co., Inc., says will be "an elegant, well-proportioned exterior that cloaks the true sport sedan chassis and powertrain beneath." Accavetti further noted "the sporty characteristics that customers found appealing in the TSX are even more pronounced in this aggressive new TLX," words that imply the TSX also will be exiting the scene shortly after the TL formally departs.

As for other specifics, we know that the new TLX was penned at Acura‘s Los Angeles Design Studio, developed at the company’s Ohio R&D center and will be available in front-drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The newest member of Acura’s sedan lineup also will offer buyers the choice of two all-new direct-injected Earth Dreams engines, each matched to an all-new advanced transmission.
