2014 Nissan Rogue SL AWD Long-Term Update: Halfway Home

We’ve reached the halfway point of our time with the 2014 Nissan Rogue SL AWD and there’s not much to complain about. Being that it’s a compact crossover, the Rogue has been a popular choice for staff members in need of some extra space on the weekends while still being able to park it on a city street. The other side of the compact crossover coin is fuel economy in which we’re seeing returns of 28-30 mpg combined depending on where the Rogue is headed.

As a refresher, our 2014 Nissan Rogue relies on a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine which is good for 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. It’s not the fastest car in our long-term fleet but being that it’s paired with a CVT, it’s one of the more fuel efficient ones. Even the gripes that some staffers had at the beginning of its stay with us concerning the CVT have subsided as the combined mpg figure has consistently hovered around the EPA-rated 28 mpg mark. On various occasions we’ve seen that combined mpg number climb even higher. If you were to go with the front-wheel drive model, the Rogue sees small improvements in city (up 1 to 26 mpg) and highway (up 1 to 33 mpg). Combined mpg (28) stays the same on both. Since there’s such a minor increase in fuel economy we recommend going with the all-wheel drive model.

Stay connected  

As phones continue to learn new tricks, people tend to travel less (or at all) without them and the Rogue allows easy pairing of such a device. We’ve had both iPhones and Androids sync seamlessly through Bluetooth while multiple USB ports can charge your device simultaneously. Then there’s NissanConnect, which is the automaker’s app suite that includes navigation, the capability to understand and execute voice commands, and Sirius XM radio and traffic updates. This system comes with three months of Sirius XM radio but after that you’re responsible for signing up for the service. The hands-free texting assistant makes it much easier to receive texts while on the road and the voice-command system helps to respond without having to pick up your phone. 

We’re six months into our time with the 2014 Nissan Rogue SL AWD and we seem to be enjoying it. So far, the EPA ratings have proved to be accurate with the Rogue even besting those numbers on certain occasions. Pair that fuel efficiency with a wide array of on-board tech and there really isn’t much to dislike with the Rogue.
