2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class previewed in ‘Aesthetics S’ sculpture

Although the next-generation 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class isn’t slated to make its world debut until sometime during the first half of 2013, the automaker is providing a sense of what we can expect to see in its exterior styling with a new relief-like sculpture that will be presented at the Paris Auto Show. Dubbed "Aesthetics S," this three-dimensional profile view "sets the scene for the development of a new S-Class" and will be augmented with its own dedicated light show that will be staged in three acts. Mercedes says the unique presentation will help highlight the visual character of the fifth-generation of its flagship sedan and also incorporate an elegant homage to the four previous S-Class models that shows the scope of their influence on the design tradition of this iconic model.

"The characteristic lines of the S-Class have always represented the expression of automotive culture, as we understand it. The new S-Class will continue this tradition and, with its striking lines, will put a face to our design philosophy over the coming years", explains Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz Cars."

The "Aesthetics S" sculpture is the fourth in a series that Mercedes has used to provide an early look at what lies ahead. Unlike the original "Aesthetics No. 1" that was revealed in 2010 and "Aesthetics No. 2" and "Aesthetics 125," both of which appeared in 2011, "Aesthetics S" is the first to be directly focused on a specific model line.
