Although it won’t arrive in showrooms until later this year, the new 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid sedan has already made news by earning the best-in-class city EPA mark of 50 mpg. That figure puts it 3 mpg up on its closest gas/electric midsize sedan rival, the Ford Fusion Hybrid, and is 1 mpg better than Honda‘s original estimate. Rounding out its EPA stats, the new Accord Hybrid nets a 45 mpg rating on the highway and carries a 47 mpg combined figure. With a calculated driving range of 673 miles, this well-equipped front-drive 4-door also can travel 46 more miles on a single tank of fuel than the next closest vehicle in its segment.

In addition to being the most fuel-efficient Accord ever, this latest addition to the family also is the first Honda hybrid model to be produced at the automaker’s Ohio facility in Marysville. Like its plug-in sibling, the new Accord Hybrid is fitted with Honda’s new two-motor hybrid powertrain and offers Intelligent Multi Mode Drive that allows the choice of three different settings – EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive – to optimize overall fuel efficiency and/or performance.

Key options include an 8-inch color i-MID display, perforated leather-trimmed seating surfaces and cloud-based HondaLink connectivity as well as Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning and a multi-angle rearview camera.
Pricing for the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid has not yet been announced, but we expect it to start well south of the Accord Plug-in Hybrid’s $40,570 sticker price.
