2014 Chevrolet Silverado teased

Although still cloaked in heavy camouflage, the first official spy images of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado have now surfaced showing Chevy’s workhorse pickup undergoing wet testing at the automaker’s proving grounds in Yuma, Arizona. Chevy also released a short video clip that chronicles the next-gen Silverado during a hot-weather production-validation test on public roads.

The Silverado was last fully redone in 2007 and while Chevy has yet to provide full particulars on the upcoming redesign, it has confirmed that this comprehensive makeover will include significant enhancements to the frame, suspension, cabin appointments and aerodynamics as well as to the powertrain elements highlighted by the fitment of GM’s next-gen "small-block" direct-injected engines, likely to include both V6 and V8 variants. While speculation continues as to whether they’ll be backed by 6-speed or 8-speed automatic transmissions, the packages will deliver meaningful gains in overall fuel economy. Exact launch timing of the 2014 Silverado — and its GMC Sierra cousin — has not been revealed, but we’re led to believe that the first public showing will come at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January with production to commence shortly thereafter.
