Although hard facts remain hard to come by, we do know two more bits of information about the all-new seventh-generation Chevy Corvette that will be making its debut next January at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. First, the C7 Corvette will wear a redesigned badge that infuses the original with a more contemporary character. Second, production of the current C6 Corvette will end in February when the assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, will close for six months to retool for the C7 model. It’s scheduled to begin rolling off the line there in August or September with sales set to start later in the year.
"The all-new, seventh-generation Corvette deserved an all-new emblem," said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. "The new Crossed Flags design reflects the character of the next Corvette. The flags are much more modern, more technical, and more detailed than before – underscoring the comprehensive redesign of the entire car."
As for the rest of the package, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will reportedly share only two components with the current C6 model: the cabin air filter and the rear latch mechanism for the lift-off roof panel. Details about the C7’s new engine, a bespoke version of GM’s new Gen V small-block V8 will be released next week.
