Later this week, BMW plans to reveal full details about its new 2 Series, which is expected to launch as a 2014 model. De facto 2-door replacement for the outgoing 1 Series Coupe and Convertible, it’s also likely to spawn a 4-door GranCoupe model as well at some point after arriving in showrooms here next spring. Save for this partial image lifted from a factory teaser video, BMW offered no other details about the car. However, word out of Europe indicated that, much like the relationship between the automaker’s existing 3 Series and the recently introduced 4 Series, its new and more aggressively styled 2 Series will be will be slightly larger than the outgoing 1 Series and have wider track dimensions and a longer wheelbase. The base 228i is believed to be fitted with BMW’s 2.0-liter/4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine while the upline M235i should be fitted with the more potent 3.0-liter/inline-6 TwinPower Turbo. We’ll have more facts and photos when they are released on Friday.
