Due to blast onto the scene next spring, the 2013 Porsche Cayenne S Turbo is the newest and hottest member of the automaker’s premium SUV lineup. Slated to debut next month at the Los Angeles Auto Show and packing even more power, polish and features than the mighty Turbo model, this new King of the Cayenne Hill will set new performance benchmarks for the class, both on-road and off.
Key element in the Cayenne Turbo S formula is an even more potent version of the standard 4.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8. Bolstered by remapped engine electronics, pony count jumps from 500 to 550 horses and peak torque output rises from 516 to 553 lb-ft. Equally notable, those gains are realized without any negative impact on its fuel economy, at least in Euro trim. Still backed by an 8-speed automatic transmission, this even-mightier motivator propels the all-wheel-drive Turbo S from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds – 0.1 tick quicker than the Cayenne Turbo – and takes it to a top speed of 173 mph, giving the S-spec super flyer a +3 mph edge in the maximum velocity arena.
To take full advantage of its extra muscle, the Cayenne Turbo S comes with a full range of supplemental handling enhancements that complement its air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and bigger brakes, both of which are standard on the Cayenne Turbo. Highlighting that upgrade list are Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus with an electronically controlled locking rear differential and Power Steering Plus. The Turbo S kit also includes the Sport Chrono package which provides a variety of supplemental includes both analog and digital timers located at the center of the dash.
Adding a subtle bit of visual spark, the exterior of the new Cayenne Turbo S features custom-finished 21-inch 911 Turbo II lightweight alloy wheels and twin-paired polished-aluminum exhaust outlets set off with gloss black highlights and body-color wheel arch extensions. The cabin, which offers a bespoke two-tone leather treatment in Black/Carrera Red or Black/Luxor Beige, is further enhanced with an Alcantara headliner and a Carbon Fiber interior package.
Pricing for the new 2013 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S will start at $146,975.
