One of the many innovative touches that will be introduced on the new 2013 Cadillac XTS is a capless closure for the car’s fuel tank. While the technology is already in use by several automakers, Cadillac fuel-systems engineer John Hamilton, claims the division’s latest take on the basic concept delivers even better real-world performance in addition to forever ending the possibility of having the cap accidentally scratching the car’s fender or inadvertently driving off and leaving it behind.
To improve its sealing capability, Cadillac’s capless design incorporates two doors instead of just one. Each is fitted with a rubber edge seal to ensure it positively locks into place and forms an airtight seal capable of withstanding years of refueling rigors without leaking. The system also eliminates the need for an internal drain, which makes it less likely to external drips.
