Although complete details await its official reveal next month in Geneva, the first official photo and some basic information on the vehicle has just been released. As expected, the new Outlander bears a strong resemblance to the Concept PX-MiEV II plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that was shown last year at the Tokyo Motor Show. While the conventional version of the Outlander is set to go on sale this summer in Russia, with subsequent rollouts to follow in European, Japanese, Oceanic, Chinese and North American markets, the automaker indicated that at some point in fiscal 2012, it also will introduce a PHEV version of this new mid-size crossover.
A significant advance beyond the vehicle it replaces, the next-gen Mitsubishi Outlander will offer a far more sophisticated user experience as well a introduce a host of new safety technologies to go along with even greater fuel efficiency. The cabin will feature a richer look with more soft-touch surfaces, high-resolution displays and instrumentation and multifunction steering wheel controls. Easily configurable three-row seating and an available power rear liftgate will add even more functionality. The new Outlander also will offer a Forward Collision Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control System and Lane Departure Warning.
While powertrain specifics for the U.S. 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander have not been released, European versions will offer the choice of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with the latest iteration of Mitsu’s MIVEC valvetrain technology or a super-clean 2.2-liter turbodiesel. Mitsubishi indicated that the new Outlander also will feature "Auto Stop&Go" as well as a new "eco-friendly driving system" that will indicate when the vehicle is being operated in the most efficient manner.
