The Buick brand of automobiles and SUVs is a popular luxury brand from General Motors. Featuring something for everyone, except those in need of a truck, Buick is a historic marque that doesn’t require major service to keep running well. Still, for many years and miles of pleasurable driving, the Buick Division recommends that you properly maintain the vehicle. To that end, they have a prescribed service schedule that will keep your Buick running like new.
Available online or in the Buick owner’s manual, General Motors has made available maintenance guidelines so that owners will know when to perform specific tasks involving inspection or replacement of a fluid, components, windshield wipers and other expendable items that are necessary for the proper operation of your vehicle.
Owners will be alerted to some aspects of their coverage. For example, your Buick’s Engine Oil Life System will alert you within 600 miles of a scheduled 7,500-mile oil change interval. With the system, a computer looks at a combination of factors including engine revolutions, temperature, and miles driven to determine the useful oil life that remains. This scheduled service will also include a tire rotation and a multi-point vehicle inspection.
Here are a few highlights from the Buick Service schedule:
Every 7,500 miles your Buick mechanic will change the vehicle’s synthetic oil and oil filter, as well as rotate the tires, inspect brake pads and examine the engine’s air filter. Additionally, they will check the wipers, tire pressure, inspect for fluid leaks, and provide a visual inspection of the suspension and chassis components.
This service will continue at 15,000, 22,500, 30,000 miles and so on for every 7,500 miles. Follow the owner’s manual to stay abreast of what other services will be performed at your Buick dealership.
Current leased or purchased Buick vehicles are entitled to two complimentary oil and filter changes, four-tire rotations and multi-point vehicle inspection. The standard terms of the warranty for your Buick vehicle is 4 years/50,000 miles of comprehensive coverage, and 6 years/70,000 miles of powertrain coverage.
As part of a GM initiative, Buick will offer an extended warranty that pushes out bumper-to-bumper coverage from 4 years/50,000 miles to 6 years/70,000 miles. This extended contract will be offered at the time of sale and the cost, which will range between $1,000 to $2,000 depending on brand and model, can be rolled into the final price of the vehicle and financed. If the owner opts for the additional coverage, the extended terms stay with car through subsequent owners. GM stresses that this isn’t a service contract, but rather an extension of the vehicle’s original warranty.
For owners wanting to expand their coverage, Buick offers Pre-Paid Maintenance plan, which includes the standard maintenance program (oil and filter changes along with tire rotation), and may include air filters, cabin air filters, transmission and transfer fluid changes, and spark plugs, respectively. At every service, Buick service technicians and mechanics will perform a Multi-Point Vehicle Inspection. At this juncture, they inspect certain aspects of your vehicle including battery condition, wheel alignment and tire wear, brake wear, windshield wiper wear, and connectivity status to OnStar.
For service that extends beyond the traditional 4-year/50,000-mile service interval, Buick owners can subscribe to the optional Buick Pre-Paid Maintenance Plus plan with additional coverage for approved repairs. Maintenance plans exist that range from 24 months/30,000 miles to 180 months/150,000 miles. If a covered breakdown occurs, you will have access to General Motors certified service technicians at any one of the 4,000-plus GM dealerships nationwide. The program extends the warranty life of the engine, transmission, drive axle, turbochargers or superchargers, transfer case, steering, braking and air conditioning components along with coverage for all seals and gaskets.
