Positive Review
We just got back from our 1st 600 mile road trip with the new 2013 Buick Encore.....and love the vehicle. The handling is fantastic, it is roomy and comfortable. Very little road noise, was doing 87 MPH and didn't realize it. Suspension is good, ride is fantastic. Mileage was wonderful. I like the vehicle more now than I did when we purchased it. My only complaint....could use a bit more trunk. Can't fit golf clubs but....can fit luggage. Also...the driver has a arm rest but the front right seat doesn't. It would be nice if both had arm rests that fold up and down. I was worried about pick up and passing (due to Car and Driver review) - don't worry about it....it did fantastic. I don't know why Car and Driver said that in the review....more like they pick on American Made Vehicles.....I was flying by people while passing and our car was loaded.
Critical Review
This thing is unreal and to many problems. "Not reliable of course" I, could not provide anything nice about this suv. Transmission shifting terrible. Gas mileage is not good. Cost repairs are expensive. Seats are hard, there's no comfort. To many plastic rattling sounds every where. No thanks, I don't recommend this pile of scrap metal junk.

Our 2018 Buick Encore Preferred 2 is a very nice riding quiet vehicle. It was purchased used to replace a GMC Envoy which we really loved, but the rust issues were becoming severe. This vehicle was the affordable option with very low miles .All things considered it has held up well, no major issues. A problem spot is the module for the AWD which seems to need to be replaced yearly. It is covered by the warranty so I think we will only keep it as long as the warranty is in effect. Both rear springs needed to be replaced this year, at 50K miles as they cracked and broke. It is very light, so it can be challenging in the snow and bad weather ( Is a little better with the new Michelin tires, but you still need to be careful). All in all, it is doing what we need it to do, at a price we could afford, but at the end of the warranty we will be looking to replace it with a heavier vehicle (like a pre-owned GMC Acadia or a Buick Envision AWD). We received a notice from GM that they would replace the turbo if it goes bad, as an as-needed recall, but so far we are doing ok with it, but we do allow it to cool down for a few minutes before we turn the engine off. We change the oil and do the maintence through the dealer, oil changes are at 3K miles so that might be helping it.
Apparently the connections for the engine cooling system are all plastic. I discovered this when my 2018 buick encore overheated randomly after 2 years of owning it and maintaining it properly. Had to tow it and discovered I needed an entirely new turbo. Shortly after that, the badly engineered co2 sensors all needed to be replaced, then the AC compression belt burnt out and had to be replaced, then the aftermarket turbo cracked and had to be replaced again.... I cant wait to get rid of this money pit.
Extended warranty is highly recommended because you will have several costly repairs in your future.
Hi I’m writing this review to give some honest insight. I’m a college student and I live about 130 miles from home and do the drive often. My car is a 2015 with what I would consider high mileage. I love the interior and it has the perfect amount of space for me to pack up and take on weekend trips. Realistically, I have to do regular maintenance fixes(brakes, oil, tires) and have had a few “real issues”. I have had to do a $1,000 fix of the intake manifold and $500 suspension fix. My check engine light sometimes turns on even when my car has no symptoms and then turns itself off within a few days. I also have noticed that you can hear a lot of road noise from inside the vehicle. Other than that, it drives well and I really love it.
Very clean and quiet
Coolant system may leak.
It’s a nice vehicle and it drives nice and quiet. It seems to be low maintenance for the most part too. I hope this helps.
The car has some turbo charges issue but run well. I had it check it is ready to i fix the chip widow
Has plenty of cargo space, rear sets fold down, nice tech features for the year
Terribly under powered engine that burns through oil
Worst vehicle I have ever owned. Has no power and handles terribly. Burns oil. And I have replaced the turbo three times now. Its a known problem with mechanics. Mine told me to sell mine asap.
Fuel mileage, reliability
Could use a little more horsepower
This car has been extremely reliable and very fuel efficient. It has been a wonderful little car for the family have 106,000 miles on it already. Never had a problem with this car whatsoever. It’s been great in Iowa where we faced the winners I have the all-wheel drive. It’s been just great. I highly recommend this car. I will be buying the bigger one next time but this one car has been rolling strong.
