Positive Review
1991 525i E34. Bought on eBay for $3,000 at 145,000 miles. At 170,000 just had to replace transmission ($4,000 for BMW trans). No car payments, minimum upkeep...I'm ahead of the game because the car drives smooth as silk, looks gorgeous, handles great. Fit, finish, and detail is terrific. This 18-yr-old car still turns heads and feels rock solid. I've owned MBZ, BMW 3-series, Fords, Toyotas, Hondas, Jaguars...but I would recommend an older BMW 5-series to anyone.
Critical Review
This car is beautiful looking and very nice to drive, even though it is underpowered. The problem is that all kinds of stuff broke or failed the first three years we owned it (we bought it with 80,000 on it back in 1999). Everything from the transmission, to stupid things like the driver's side sun visor. We paid for the car twice. We paid the seller once, then we paid various mechanics the second time.

Easy to handle and easy to drive.
run like a machine
The automobile looks good original paint job, never involved in and accident.one owner .Everything work on the auto.Have folder full of service done on the vehicle.Immaculate condition in and out. Seats and interior of the vehicle and sunroom are all workable.
Sold, comfortable, safe, reliable.
Pricey when things go wrong.
It's been a fun, fast and reliable car for me. It has had a few needed repairs, however I think it is a great car.
Solid, feels like a tank, drives great
gas milage as engine wears is less than I wished.
I have a great story about this car. I was not supposed to own it, but the guy I bought it from tried to sell me a lemon car out of his lot. I looked at and put a deposit on a older model Mercedes. When I got it in for the first time, it would not start. I told him I wanted my money back, but he would not return my deposit. I argued with him for so long, that he finally said, I have another car you can have and as it turns out, it was a forest green, 1993 BMW 525i. It had 222,000. Now its ready to turn over a half a million miles. That should be all you need to know. I love this car, it has been amazing and its still with me.
Fun, safe, and comfortable
The door locks can be terrible
I have had this car for Eight years, to this day I still love this car. I'm the second owner, and I know very well how I kept after the car. In the eight years that I've owned this car, I replaced the Clutch in 2008 ( My guess is the previous owner didn't know how to drive one properly ), the ignition lock cylinder in 2009, the tires in 2011, the fuel tank in 2015 ( Someone tried to jack the car and did so by lifting the fuel tank), and the front end ball joints in 2016. I've been in two accidents. The first one was with a brand new jeep -- and my car did more damage to his jeep, my air bags weren't deployed, and I walked away untouched. The second time I was foolish and might have been driving too fast in icy conditions and I bounced off a few snow banks- -Again, I was kept safe by this extremely solid car. This car is GREAT in the snow---- unless it's too thick, your stuck going too slow on a hill, you don't understand how to counter the car potentially fish tailing, and if you have some weight in the trunk. If you know how to drive a manual -- YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO REPLACE THE BREAKS ON THIS CAR. Everytime I bring it to the shop, I ask them how my breaks look, and every time they go " They look great!" -- It's been 8 years since the pads have been touched. The car is responsive, and affordable to fix if you know someone who can do the work for you. The car in optimal* conditions can do 40mpg on the highway. Yes you heard me right, it can do it, and yes I did the math. The downside to this car. The door locks are fussy in cold weather. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't! The car has also started to form a rot spot back in 2009, despite my constant washing, waxing and polishing. Other than that, I have really no complaints. * Hardly any traffic, Premium Gas, fresh Synthetic oil, new tires/balanced, little to no weight in the car, and using your cruise control at 75 MPH
Have had this 95 530 for over a year and have had no real problems. Bought it with only 65,000 original miles on it, and it has only needed a few light bulbs and front brakes. Smooth as can be at any speed, stock limiter cuts it off at just about 130, and it does not struggle to reach that speed. (so ive heard) Ive been through several used cars and this is by far the best one ive owned, and i foresee having it a very long time. Pro: good instrument and control designs, solid construction, handles great, adequate high end power. Cons: really? no cup holders? pricey replacement parts, no low end torque.
Cool Car
No cup holders
The Car is clean and has been well maintained runs like the champ it is will do 149 miles per hour. Vroom Vroom. This is a sound and reliable car worth more than the asking.
It goes, handles and stops like a BMW. + Quality
You have to stay on top of the maintenance. $$
These E34's will go 300,000 miles if properly maintained without major component replacements. I found a good 1 owner example with the maintenance receipts clipped together in the glove box and 107,000 miles on it in 2010. I've driven it 80,000 miles in the last 5 years. It's smooth, quiet and has fantastic handling and brakes. It's a 3500 lb. 4 door sedan so it's a bit underpowered with the 2.5 liter six but when you're on a road trip at 70 - 80 mph the car comes alive and I wish the road would never end.In the world of sport sedans, BMW invented the class and is the standard by which all others are measured. - P.S. all my drums and my sweetheart fit inside @ 23.1 m.p.g. average over 5 years of enthusiastic driving.
Eleventh year of ownership, and has had some repairs, nothing major. Still drives like a champ and gives me 20 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway.
