10 Most Popular Electric Cars

According to Cox Automotive data, more than 607,000 electric vehicles (EVs) were sold in the first half of 2025, or about 7.45% of all new vehicle sales. That is 1.5% more than this time last year, and a new record.

There are all-new electric vehicles going on sale every year, and more are coming. As a sign of the times, of the 10 best-selling EVs in the U.S., there are three models on this list that debuted for the 2024 model year, and three entries broke through to make this list for the first time. Not only are there more new models sold in America and more coming soon, but they are highly competitive, more affordable, and have struck a chord with shoppers. And with ranges that are as good as non-hybrid cars and standardized charging-plug choices, these EVs are becoming easier to live with on a day-to-day basis. Most charging stations can accommodate CCS and NACS connectors, as those two are the industry standards, and there are more charging stations than ever before. Road trips in an electric car are no longer a fingers-crossed affair.

So, which electric vehicles are the best-sellers? We’ve compiled the best-selling EVs for the first half of the 2025 calendar year, based on Kelley Blue Book parent company Cox Automotive data. As you would expect, Tesla still reigns supreme.

1. Tesla Model Y

Staying in the top spot, Tesla’s compact SUV has up to 337 miles of range and room for five passengers. So far this year, the Model Y is the fourth-best-selling SUV in America. That’s a drop from last year, but still a very impressive accomplishment. Its starting price of $46,880 isn’t the lowest price in the segment, but its impressive range and excellent tech in the cabin make the Model Y a popular choice.

Total units sold: 101,323

In second place is the Tesla Model 3, which shares platforms with the Model Y. And even though Tesla’s sales fell in 2025, the Model Y and Model 3 are head and shoulders above the competition. The Model 3 sold over 70,000 more vehicles than the next vehicle on this list. That’s an impressive feat, but not surprising considering that Tesla had a huge head start in the EV world over traditional automakers. The Model 3’s price starts at $44,130, and this car has a range of up to 363 miles.
