Luxury compact sport sedans are as much about where the rubber meets the road as they are about having a nicely outfitted interior. The 2020 Genesis G70 and 2020 Cadillac CT4 are stylish and dynamic takes on the genre.
2020 Genesis G70
Above Average: A luxury sedan that comes in rear- or all-wheel drive, automatic or manual transmission, offers a class-leading warranty and fantastic value
Below Average: Genesis is still a bit unknown to the broader market, and dealers are still hard to find
Consensus: The 2020 Genesis G70 is a luxury compact sedan that stands up well against some of the better-known German offerings.
2020 Cadillac CT4
2020 Cadillac CT4 Starting Price: $33,990 | Price Yours
Above Average: Striking styling, standard rear-wheel drive, with optional all-wheel drive and available advanced cruise control
Below Average: The CT4 replaces the outgoing ATS and loses some power in the process.
Consensus: The 2020 Cadillac CT4 should be good on the road, but we’ll have to reserve our final judgment for when we get more seat time.
G70 vs. CT4: Good sports
The 2020 Genesis G70 is one of the best-kept secrets in compact luxury sedans. It has won multiple awards across the industry for disrupting the staid and somewhat dull luxury market, and it’s the real deal on the road. Replete with excellent handling, a long list of standard features, the latest in safety and technology systems, the G70 really offers it all. Plus, it has a stellar class-leading warranty, and it’s starting price undercuts most of the luxury brands you know. The G70 comes standard in rear-drive but can be optioned with the automaker’s solid all-wheel-drive system. On the road, the Genesis is quick, responsive, and a blast to drive. Inside the sedan is refined and comfortable with a stellar stereo system by Lexicon. The standard 15-speaker/660-watt set up is enough to pack a punch when you crank the volume.
While we haven’t extensive wheel time in the 2020 Cadillac CT4, we like what Cadillac has put together for the 2020 model year, which replaces the outgoing and more powerful 2019 Cadillac ATS. While the CT4 has the same wheelbase of the ATS, it is slightly longer. It is also somewhat narrower as well, which will undoubtedly affect the way that the CT4 feels on the road. One of the things we are excited about is the optional addition of Cadillac Super Cruise to the new CT4. Cadillac’s adaptive cruise control system is one of the best in the business, and being able to use it on the CT4 will be a huge benefit.
Good looking midsize sedans that offer lots of technology
Genesis G70 Advantages
Pricing and a stellar warranty
Cadillac CT4 Advantages
Optional Super Cruise is unique to the segment
The Genesis gets our vote over the Cadillac in this comparison. Genesis’ stellar warranty and the sheer joy of driving the G70 puts it ahead in this comparison.
