The flagship sedan of GM’s luxury division will roll into its sophomore season with a host of standard and optional upgrades that add more appeal to the mix. Without question, the key add for 2014 is the availability of the division’s new LF3 3.6-liter Twin Turbo V6. Although output is down a bit from what it makes in the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS-V, the engine still cranks out a healthy 410 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, compared to 304/264 ratings in the similarly sized but naturally aspirated base engine. Like the base engine, the LF3 will be backed by a 6-speed automatic transmission with tap-shift control.

Other changes of note for the 2014 XTS include a new and more efficient electric variable power assist steering system on front-drive models and auto-dimming Intellibeam headlamps on the top three (Luxury/Premium/Platinum) trims grades. All models get a revised rear-seat armrest with wood trim, audio controls and sunshade controls on models with a sunroof — which now boasts an opaque internal shade. Richening the option roster on this top-line Cadillac is a new twin-screen rear-seat DVD entertainment system, a front passenger seat memory function and Automatic Parking Assist on front-drive XTS models.
