Looking to elevate the already exemplary standard handling of its full-size EV sedan into the realm of true supercar territory, Tesla has announced the introduction of a new Performance Plus Package for the Model S. Available only on the top-line Model S Performance version equipped with the 85kWh battery pack, this comprehensive upgrade brings revamped shocks, bushings and anti-roll bars as well as unique 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped in super-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. The rear rubber also is 20mm wider than on the standard fitment to enhance stability and acceleration potential on low-grip road surfaces.

In addition to significantly improving vehicle dynamics — the McLaren MP4-12C supercar reportedly served as the bogey for that benchmark – Tesla says the new Performance Plus Package also enhances the ride quality and improves the per-charge range of the Model S Performance by 6 to 12 miles beyond its current 265-mile EPA stat. Factory-installed price for the new Performance Plus Package is $6,500 when added to a new Model S. However, for $13,000, Tesla also is offering a similar Performance Plus Retrofit that can be installed on current Model S Performance vehicles.
