2021 Mitsubishi Mirage Pricing Starts at Just $14k

It’s not entirely clear which will be the least expensive new car in America this year, but the Mitsubishi Mirage is now the early favorite. Manufacturers are still announcing prices of some 2021 models, but the Mirage, we now know, will start at just $14,295. That price includes a styling refresh and a few new safety features for 2021.

Value-focused shoppers will find the Mirage a bargain in the long run, as well, thanks to a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and fuel economy of 36/43/39 city/highway/combined when equipped with the thrifty continuously variable transmission.

Updated styling

Mirage sports a new look for 2021. Both the Mirage hatchback and Mirage G4 sedan carry Mitsubishi’s new grille, which it calls “dynamic shield.” New front and rear bumpers look a bit sportier than before. Updated tail lamps also distinguish the new model. Both versions of the car continue with the same 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder engine making just 78 horsepower.

Added safety features include forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection at all trim levels, plus lane departure warning and automatic high-beam headlights for the SE trim level. Inside, the standard audio system is now compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and some high-touch areas get new, softer cloth surfaces.

The Mirage may very well be America’s least expensive new car, but shoppers who look for value have other options. The Chevy Spark and Nissan Versa are likely to come in with prices below, or near, $15,000 as well (and Nissan dealers may be in a mood to negotiate, having just had a down year). Both models offer more power, and their interior materials are in a higher class, though neither comes close to the Mirage’s long warranty.
