The model range for the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia has been fleshed out by the Italian automaker, which announced that the lineup will include three models and six powertrains. In showing the standard cars at the Geneva Motor Show, Alfa said the car will be available as the Giulia, Giulia Super and Giulia Quadrifoglio—the latter being the only car of the range that has been shown to date.
The six powertrains include the previously announced 510-horsepower 2.9-liter twin turbo V6 with 6-speed manual in the Quadrifoglio, while the two diesels (150-horsepower and 180-horsepower 2.2-liter 4-cylinder units) with either 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic, are in the standard Giulia model. The Giulia Super features a 200-horsepower supercharged 2.0-liter gasoline 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic. It’s likely that the U.S. will only see the Super and Quadrifoglio models when the car is finally introduced here.
Balanced performance
While the Quadrifoglio remains the top performance model in the range, Alfa Romeo is touting the lightweight structure and nearly 50:50 weight distribution to offer exceptional handling in the Giulia and Giulia Super models. Among the weight saving measures are the use of a carbon fiber driveshaft and aluminum components for the double wishbone front and multi-link rear independent suspension.
Depending on the model, the Giulia will offer either a 3.5- or 7-inch display screen in the center of the instrument cluster as well as an 8.8-inch screen in the center of the dash with Connect Nav 3D system developed in conjunction with Magnetti Marelli. That main screen is controlled by means of a rotary knob with a surface that includes a touch interface.
High equipment levels
The base Giulia comes with a high level of equipment including such driver assists as forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and cruise control with a speed limiter. The Super includes all that equipment plus larger 17-inch alloy wheels, a choice of leather or fabric upholstery as well as optional luxury or sport packages. The luxury package includes full-grain leather upholstery, power adjustable and heated seats, rear wood accents, chrome trim o the side windows and Xenon headlamps. The sports pack includes a sport steering wheel, aluminum trim and Xenon headlamps.
The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is expected to go on sale late in the third quarter followed by the Super model shortly thereafter.
