For 2010 the V6 turbo is dropped from the line up, while a new, all-wheel-drive variant of the SportCombi is added. A reduction in the standard equipment list allows for a slight price reduction across the 9-3 range, and the overall model count is reduced from 14 to 9.

For 2009, the 9-3 Convertible receives an aero-type performance and appearance package for the 2.0T models, and the V6 turbo gains more horsepower, up to 280. A Special Edition package is also available, which includes design elements from the 9-3 Turbo X model including front fascia, steering wheel and carbon-fiber effect interior finishes.

XWD is the big news this year. In addition to slightly more power from the Aero's V6 engine, the 9-3 intensifies its Eurostyle appearance, newly evolved from the Swedish company's show car. Saab advises that the 9-3 has all-new bodywork ahead of the windshield pillar.

About Saab 9-3

After a rather rough year, Saab's future seems secure for now. With a new owner and a new lease on life, the Swedish manufacturer continues to offer a small but competent line of luxury sedans, convertibles and wagons. The bread and butter of the lineup remains the 9-3, a car whose unique styling, quirky peculiarities and distinctly European driving dynamics endear it to a small but loyal group of driving enthusiasts. For 2010, the Sedan and SportCombi models with the four-cylinder 2.0T compete nicely when placed beside the Acura TSX, BMW 3 Series, Volvo S60, Audi A4, as well as the Volvo V50 Wagon.

"I have a 2004 Saab 9-3 Acr Convertible with 2.0L turbo engine. I have enjoyed everything about this car especially the gas mileage. It gives me the performance of a sports car with fuel consumption of a small compact car (28mpg hwy). The driver side mirror control switch does not work and should be recalled but that's it. Saab has the most intelligent on board computer I've seen in any car. It also has safety features to protect driver, all passengers and the car itself, including the electrical systems. In the past years the Saab was known for having the most electrical problems but now they have one of the best systems in the business. It is an awesome value at any price. This car competes well with any German or Japan Import and offers an outstanding driving experience. Saabs are under-rated; you get much more than what you paid for. Saabs are engineered to perfection in every way."

Pros: "Driver's dream"

Cons: "Expense of dealer repair"

"Quietest and best engineered convertible. Real rear seat and trunk. Carry on a normal conversation at highway speeds with the top down and windows up. Designed for drop top cruising and cooler weather. Great in the snow. Beautiful styling, turns Beemer and Caddy heads regularly. Windscreen accessory keeps the ladies' hair in place. Saab engineering detail is amazing. 4 cyl turbo performs like a V8. High upper 20s mpg on highway. Mid 20s mpg in town. Easy to work on. Pure pleasure to drive."

"I have had this car for 6 years now and absolutely love it. It is so much fun to drive. As it gets older, little annoying things are going wrong with it, but i still love to drive it. Has that..get up and go punch..quick little car and with the turbo gets a bout 26mpg"
