"It holds value very well, gets about 22 mpg city or highway (both the I4 and the V6 get the same gas-mileage). Don't buy and ext cab with the 4 cyl engine. The 2.2 4 cyl is very underpowered as it is. Manual tranny is best to get whatever you can out of this engine. Body holds up well. The ABS is terrible. When it kicks in, you'll know it, as you'll suddenly stop stopping. It's also loud as h*ll. Truck is reliable, and few repairs are needed. Over the LIFE of the truck, you can expect: Every 2.2 will have flex-pipe problems (exhaust leaks). Mine has had some leak issues when it rains, but these are pretty simple to fix (caulk). The gas gauge will break in these. The automatic transmissions are known to have problems (DO NOT go into reverse without a complete stop). The radiator is smaller than could be desired. Fuel pumps on these are known for their tendency to fail. They're also loud (even when brand new, you'll hear them humming). This truck is identical to the S10 (different plastic on the grill), and very similar to the Blazer and the Jimmy. Models 1995-2004 are substantially identical. Shares many parts with the Astro. Parts for this thing are cheap. The drivetrain will last 300,000 miles if properly maintained."

Pros: "Decent gas mileage, fairly comfortable to drive even though I am 6'3" tall."

Cons: "4 cyl doesn't have a LOT of power, but sufficient."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Owned this vehicle since it was new. Had Very few issues with it over the years. Replaced one ignition coil and the fuel pump, as well as the radiator. Have run XFT fuel treatment in it for the last three years and it is still running strong."

"My '98 GMC Sanoma SLS Ext cab 2.2L 4 banger auto 2wd is the slowest most underpowered truck I have EVER owned, it's ugly, it's small, set's to low, and reminds me of my boy's tonka toys, but it has never left me stranded. Normal wear and tear like tires, brakes, struts, plugs, wires, coil packs, etc is all I have ever had to do to the truck. This truck gets 5 stars for reliability, because it has never left me stranded like my other trucks (Ford, chevy's and dodges). The truck can't haul much or tow anything, but she doesn't mind sitting on the rear axle when I go get 30 bags of feed (1500lbs) from time to time. She starts every time, and even though she screams when passing or climbing a hill, I just keep the peddle on the floor and eventually we'll make it up. Fuel milage is okay with about 20 around town and a whopping 29mpg when traveling. Not the fastest, coolest, or most effecient truck out there, but it's built like a rock and just wont stop."
