"I bought a `96 Sonoma with 143k miles, it was a good condition. Mine is the five speed, 4x4, vortec 4.3. Even with the miles, the truck drives very well and is quietier inside than my `03 Tundra. The motor has good power, quiet and get 23 mpg at highway speed! The four wheel drive works flawless and engages smooth. Some dislikes? The interior is kinda cheesy with all the plastic and the overall quality falls short of Toyota however, everything works as it should. Sometimes the shifting is a little notchy in the lower gears, I had a 95 s-10, it did the same thing. Breaks good use some work. So far I`m really impressed with my `96 Sonoma, it does what its supposed too and good at what it is"
"I bought this truck new so I have owned it for 10 years. Never had any major problems other than routine maintenance, It has the HO engine and that is a real screamer in a truck this size. With the step side bed, sport suspension, and alloy 16 inch wheels with wide tires, it handles like a sports car but the ride is rather harsh. Quiet, reliable, and sharp looking. Great truck for the suburbs and I highly recommend it. The only complaint I have is that the third door latch has failed three times because it is made of plastic. I hope to keep it for years to come."
"I have had this truck for 5 yrs. Brakes every yr . 4x4 is great, never fear getting stuck in the upstate ny snow. mpg 13/19. Comfortable, love the 4 drs. only a short bed but for me thats not a problem, Door pins replaced, ball joints, tail gate straps,a few sensors here and there, fuel pump replaced. I have 92000 on it and still loving it. Bought a warrrant for up to 100k. So these repairs have cost me very little, basically the sales tax. I will trade in at 100k just because I wanted a newer car."
