The KBB.com editorial staff drives every new model and a couple hundred carryover models every single year. We then turn all that seat time into insightful written and video content created first and foremost for car shoppers.
Here are some of the names behind the words at KBB.com:
Jack R. Nerad | VP, Executive Editorial Director
Cars...I guess I've always loved them, but that love became tangible when my father introduced me to the auto enthusiast magazines when I was about 10. By 15 I owned my own car and was working on it. (Turns out I still own it, and I'm still working on it, too.) I was always that guy who knew a lot about cars but never thought he could make a living from it as I began to write for newspapers, magazines, radio and TV. Then I got the lucky break to work for a trade journal in the auto industry, and within five years I was Editor of Motor Trend magazine. After that I worked at several car companies and at J.D. Power and Associates, hosted a radio show and authored several books. One of them, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Buying or Leasing a Car, was helpful in obtaining the job I have and cherish now - Executive Editorial Director at Kelley Blue Book. I get a special pleasure out of helping people buy the right car.
Jason Allan | Managing Editor, Online Content
I grew up a few miles from Kelley Blue Book's Irvine offices and smack dab in the middle of Southern California car culture. I've always been more interested in attainably priced modern cars than classics or supercars, and I love helping friends, family and KBB.com visitors choose the right one. As a fan of driving feel, bang for the buck and our local weather, my all-time favorites include the VW GTI, Mazda MX-5 and Porsche Boxster/Cayman, but I'm more likely to recommend a Honda Accord or Ford Flex. Before joining Kelley Blue Book in 2004, I studied journalism, advertising and marketing at San Diego State University, and later spent time in the Lincoln Mercury marketing department and a small ad agency.
Richard Homan | Senior Vehicle Evaluation Editor
If it weren't for cars, I'd be writing about music. Fortunately, cars came first. While still in college, I interned at Road & Track, America's first and finest car magazine, located in Newport Beach, California. It was like coming home to family -- a family that could hire you. After 11 years of this summer camp with track time included, I left my R&T family and got deeply involved with the advertising and marketing side of the car business. By that time, the Internet was cracking like thunder, and I starting creating automotive websites. These adventures led me to Kelley Blue Book and KBB.com, where I now reside.
Micah Muzio | Managing Editor, Video
I used to be a janitor. Now I test drive cars and produce award-winning video reviews. Clearly, fate has smiled upon me. While some car reviewers worship the automobile like a golden calf, I'm far more interested in the experience the car provides. That human-centric philosophy is a prime focus in all the reviews I write and produce. When not toiling away at the Blue Book I fly helicopters, write music, produce a podcast and take my filthy Honda S2000 roadster to the race track.
Bob Nagy | Senior Editor, News & Trends
I grew up in Ohio but moved to Los Angeles shortly after finishing college already fully hooked on cars courtesy of my dad, who was a professional mechanic. Since then, I've spent my entire career covering all aspects of the automotive business, from new models to new technology to the latest developments in the world of motorsport. Prior to joining Kelley Blue Book, I was on the staff of Motor Trend Magazine for 21 years, contributed to numerous other auto-focused print and online outlets and also worked at an agency that created collateral material for Mercedes-Benz. As for the perfect travelmate on a twisty two-lane, make mine a BMW M3 or and Audi TT RS - at least until the next-gen Acura NSX arrives.
Matt Degen | Senior Associate Editor
Long before I could drive, I loved cars. Beyond just absorbing their styles, I somehow realized that every vehicle is its own entity. Cars remain to me more than mere transportation; each has its own personality and a mechanical soul that can set you free. Like their owners, every car has positive and negative traits, and I relish evaluating each to help empower consumers. Before joining KBB in 2012, I was a journalist at the Orange County Register for over a decade, writing about everything from cars to cooking. I have degrees in communications and culinary arts.
Zach Vlasuk | Associate Editor
My diehard passion for automobiles stems from an early exposure to motorsports. Despite my racing background and affinity for performance cars, my automotive palette remains exceptionally wide, as I possess a deep knowledge of mainstream vehicles as well as in-vehicle technology. Before assuming the role of associate editor at KBB.com, I spent the better part of a decade working in the automotive industry as a copywriter, marketing specialist and a subject matter expert. I place a strong emphasis on providing my readership with the clear, relevant information they need to make a smart car buying decision.
Joe Santos | Road Test Editor
Before I was ever interested in cars, I wanted to be an optometrist and I even had my sights set on studying biology in college. But when my brother moved out of the house, he left me with a bunch of car magazines and after reading them, my career focus shifted. I ended up studying journalism in college and even cut my teeth writing for the very magazines that got me into the car scene, which then led me here. I might not be a doctor, but I'm sure this job is much more fun.
