About Toyota RAV4

Despite the sea of competitors swimming in the compact-SUV pool, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 remains the gold medal champ. The RAV4 succeeds on so many levels because it doesn’t try to be too many things. The 2017 RAV4 isn’t as off-road-ready as the Jeep Cherokee or Subaru Forester, but it does offer good ground clearance and a capable all-wheel-drive (AWD) system for dealing with deep snow. The RAV4 doesn’t offer lots of expensive engine options and premium features like the Ford Escape, so even well-equipped models remain within reach of the average buyer. On the fuel-economy front, the RAV4 Hybrid uses the same engine technology as the Prius to create the only hybrid-compact SUV in the U.S.

Pros: "Good price, safety features, pep, economy"

Cons: "The voice recognition system is poor."

"I've had the RAV4 Hybrid Limited for 6 months and 5,000 miles and I'm more impressed every day. My previous RAV4 (2011)was a 6 cylinder and when I started looking at the 2015 models I was disappointed in the performance of the 4 cyl (the 6cyl was no longer available). But the hybrid has more acceleration than my previous 6 cyl. My only complaint about the 2011 RAV4 was the road noise and the hybrid is much, much more quiet. The ride is comfortable, the interior is surprisingly spacious and the limited performance package has incredible features. The car warns me if I've crossed lane lines and even corrects the steering if I don't respond. I thought the cruise control with integrated radar would be a nuisance, but it does a great job of controlling speed when gaining on a slower vehicle and as soon as I change lines the car speeds up to the set speed."

"I have the 2017 RAV4 Limited Hybrid. It drives smoothly, has plenty of power, is very quiet and comfortable. The overhead camera view is fantastic as are all the other safety features. The JBL sound system is also excellent. Compare to my previous 2007 RAV4 and even my 2012 Prius4, this RAV4 Hybrid is 50 times nicers. I love driving it."
