"I bought my 2008 WRX sedan (5MT, non-premium) after the 2009 came out, with its tighter suspension and additional power. Because the 2009 was improved, nobody wanted the 2008, so I got it for very cheap.
Bearing the fact that this car was under $20K new for me, it was a very, very good buy. It's great in all weather conditions, is very, very quick off the line, and contrary to popular belief, it pulls hard in the mid RPMs too. While it doesn't have the highway passing prowess of the 2009, this car makes full torque much sooner than the '09, and is therefore very responsive around town.
The much criticized suspension in the 2008 is a bit soft, but not nearly as soft as the reviews would have you believe. You can still carve corners in this thing, especially when you replace the awful Bridgestone Potenza RE92 tires that come on the car.
The interior is comfortable enough, although the factory stereo (non-premium) is lacking. That's easy enough to upgrade.
The transmission is a *slight* improvement over prior WRXs, and this car carries the added benefit of flying under the radar of *most* ricers; the '08+ WRX simply doesn't attract as much negative attention.
Overall, I love the car. I got baseline dyno numbers of 188 WHEEL horsepower and 225 foot pounds of torque (again, measured at the wheels), so this car is actually UNDERRATED in terms of torque. It's the little turbo that *definitely* could, basically.
Complaints? It's a well-known fact that Subaru's paint is garbage, and this car is no exception."
"I love the car. It's fun to drive, comfortable, and gets decent mileage.
I only have three complaints about the car. The trunk release on the keys sometimes works too well. I've came back to my car to see my trunk open a couple times. I don't care for the looks of the silver stip on the trunk. The transmission isn't super smooth.
I'd buy another one for sure."
"This Outback Sport is awesome. Great utility and style. Gas mileage is average 28 mpg with over 35 mpg highway! I have the manual transmission which is reliable and smooth. Can't wait to try out the AWD this winter.
Stereo is weak however, and lack of optional sunroof may disuade some buyers."
