Pros: "plenty of room in the hatch"

Cons: "everything else"

"I bought this car last year for $5000 with 64k miles on it. I have never been so disappointed in a vehicle, and I've owned my share of junk, including an olds cutlass. I use this vehicle for work and school and occasional errands. After one NY winter, both back wheel wells and the rocker panels have started to rust and rot. At 20 mph in blizzards, I still slid all over the roads. The engine has already completely crapped out. The check engine light has been on for months for a sensor i already replaced. At 80k i started to notice i was losing power and had a knock, 10k later and I'm looking at replacing the engine. I barely have the power to make it out of my driveway, let alone the ten miles to work. The engine dogs out and leaves me redlining at 10 mph as I try to get the car up to at least 30. The car itself has shut off on me several times on the road out of nowhere. The transmission halts and sometimes won't shift from reverse to drive, or from park to reverse. I've driven an 08 impreza hatchback manual as well only to see the engine blow in that model twice in one year at the same mileage as my 2000. I would only recommend this car to my worst enemies."

Pros: "Affordable, fun, reliable, safe, fast, LOOKS GREAT"

Cons: "The cup holders are of low quantity and quality."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"This car was purchased used by our family in 2008 and we have driven it a total of 50,000 miles since the purchace date. We have never experienced a breakdown and the car starts every time. In the snow this thing performs better than our Jeep (and has never gotten stuck) and gives fhe driver assurance. The vehicle is very low maintenance and mechanics say that the subaru 2.2L is the greatest engine ever built. The car brings enough horsepower and kick to provide an entertaining ride while still achieving 30/20 mpg. Not to mention the car looks great, the designers did an incredible job. Handling is a breeze and the car is a perfect car to learn to drive on. If customizing cars us your thing, this is a great car to modify; Subarus are like Legos, you can just swap parts out with ease! I strongly believe that this car will last another 12-15 years, easy. Best purchase ever."

Pros: "Just goes, good in winter"

Cons: "no cup holders, back seat useless for adults"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"It just goes. Did so faithfully for 18 years. Great in snow and ice.At 14 years, had to get rid of rust around wheel beds. Low roof makes it hard to see in parking lots, so I just kept a ski rack on top of it even in summer. (Half the rack got stuck off to the right, the other half to the left, ---a stranger commented "interesting skis".)"

Pros: "Fun to drive, corners as if on rails, loves winter"

Cons: "Limited legroom."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"ALWAYS starts. LOVES snow and rain. GREAT handling. EASY parking. SIPS gasoline. CHEAP TO KEEP. Kind of a Plain Jane, but literally leads the pack during a blizzard (during winters, my neighbors wait for me to make the way out of the alley here in the Milwaukee area). I love this car. Got another Subaru, our 3rd."
