"Occassionally I think about selling. The vehicle spends most of its time in storage, but when it is out of storage all inclinations are drop. I fill the 90-93 series represents the transitional period for Porsche. This era breaks the styling and design of the old, 89 and pryor and helps build a transistion to the future, 95 and above. "Just rec'd the car as a gift from an ailing father. 17 years old and only 18,000 miles. What a blast to drive, when you sit in it you feel like you are part of the car. Only gripe is the Targa top creaks alot with the top in. Guess that is a hint to only drive it when the sun is out. Decent acceleration with 247 HP, state of the art at the time but lagging by today's standards. Great thrid car!"
"Contrary to what I was told, the maintenance has been inexpensive for me, I would say that every 30K one should do a $2K serious maintenance, where engine is removed and valves etc etc are all adjusted and belts etc are replaced. I have never had any other surprises, for a 18 year old car, the performance is still very impressive, handles very well (don't push to limit, unless you know what you are doing) amazing how when you close the doors, all the outside noise is gone, as to comfort, if you are a big built person, the seats will be a little tight. the driving experience and feel is very unique, love the 100% analog instruments with the front fenders bulging, and while todays porches are mechanically superior in performance, I think the old ones have soooo much more character."
"I've owned my '92 C2 Cab since 7/31/03 when it had just 21k miles. Today it has 52k & it has never let me down. The Porsche is built of the best materials & to the very highest standards by proud master craftsmen in Germany. Used now as my daily driver, the 911 is very reliable, durable, safe, secure, solid & fun. Occasionally, it can exceed 120 mph easily though it feels like about 80 since the car is so solid, tight & reaches those high speeds so effortlessly. "My wife also owns a Cayenne 2008 Turbo, she said it's an airplane but comparing my 911 Turbo 92 stick-shift, I agree with her - yes it feels as if you are flying an airplane, but mine feels like , as if it's a jet because after reaching then crossing 120MPH speed at the race track, I admit I can't find the courage to floor the accelerator pedal because it is still accelerating and pulling me after crossing 120mph, I start getting nervous because it will still give you "that pull" (torque) and the seemed unlimited speed you want, my heart starts pumping rapidly, my hands is getting more sensitive feeling the surface of the road more than when you are slow, even the smallest bump. I own this Turbo 911 for 22 years now, it still runs perfectly after 130,120 mileage, comparing to my brand new purchased Toyota Tundra Sports Truck, now only on its tenth years of ownership... had been back and forth, more visits to the service dealership 60 % more than my 911 Turbo even though my Porsche Turbo 911 have more mileage. My 2005 Tundra's transmission clutch is now broken but my Porsche is still running perfectly. My Porsche 911 Turbo is seemed made to last forever. I admit it's expensive to maintain the Turbo but I realized, overall I spent less money in service cost than maintaining a Tundra, by proportion. It's worth owning a Porsche 911 Turbo, as long as it's a turbo, again remember that, "as long as it's a Turbo" it's fun driving one for lifetime. Buying a Porsche, if it's not a turbo, forget about it, based from my :-) experience"
"I have three (73, 90 96 turbo) and had one that flipped (91). I have driven them all up and down California, and have never broken down - never. Can't say that for any other car I have had.
I love driving this up big sur. Around the twists and turns, the cars are great. The turbo can get away from you without caution. The turbo also has suspension modifications which are plentiful for these cars, and a horsepower boost (like it needs it). Great fun, but easy to get tickets.
I would even recommend this for a woman. My 16 yr old daughter drove one with a tiptronic trans, non turbo, convertible that was great. A little low to the ground, but it was fine. She putted to school in it, blonde hair flying, and had a blast since we live in a hilly place with lots of turns. The car never broke down, even with 190,000 miles on it.
Buy and enjoy. A little pricey, but hey - you only live once :)"
"I've had my 1990 for over 10 years. It has been a great ride and a ton of fun. It's got the old school Porsche look that is so recognizable but with dual air bags, power everything, and the coolest deployable spoiler on any Porsche. It comes up at 50mph which means u won't get a speeding ticket just to get some additional air cooling or a little downdraft for pressure on those rear wheels. This car is the pinnacle of German engineering and in this writers opinion represents the best of the air cooled Porsche line. Much better looking than the 993 series that followed. If you are in the market for one, just look for a decent service history and u can rely on a bullet proof engine to push you around corners at speed. People stop me all the ti e to compliment my car and express disbelief that it's over 20 years old. Still turns heads."
"After a lot of research, I bought my 1994 911 C2 Cab three months ago. It has been a dream, completely trouble-free and seriously fast. 964's got a bad rap early on due to oil leaks from gasketless cyl heads and dual-mass flywheel and distributor belt issues. However, by the 1994 model year all those issues were resolved...making the 1994 964 the most reliable of all 911's-- including later 993 (valve guide and electronics issues) thru the current 997 (rms and bearing issues) generations. Performance is outstanding with 0-60 times in the 5 sec range, handling is suberb, steering response/feel is not quite as immediate as earlier generation cars, but strikes a great balance between being relaxed and yet precise-- in no way as numb as the 993-up generations, you will still get plenty of "911 thrill" driving this one, yet with almost all the early end-swapping issues halfway thru the corner dialed out. While styling is subjective, I love that this one still looks like a classic 911 with the pronounced front "humps"...sexy. All this can be had now in the 20k range, for a car costing 75k new....if you are looking for a great way to break in to the 911 market, fantastic looks and performance, and a 911 right at the beginning of becoming a classic, look no further than the 1994 964!!"
"I'm the third owner of my '85 Targa Carrera.
I've owned it now for about 10 years, and it's still a blast to drive. It's plenty fast, and handles exceptionally well. My only complaint is the balky shifter, that requires a pause, esp. from 2-3. Downshifting requires a deft touch as well.The associated wind noises and leaks from the Targa top are well known, and mine is certainly no exception. Still, I love this car, and drive it year round."

"No others are built to the same highest standards. The performance can be bettered now as my 911 C2 cab is 16 years old. However, the car still looks & drives as new at 55k miles.
I bought the car in 7/03 when it was 11 years old & had just 21,600 miles. It was my pleasure car until 3/06 when I drove it daily until this week. Now it is in my garage under its cover except when used for fun drives or Porsche Club of America activities.
My car has been very reliable, dependable & normal maintenance costs have included no surprises.
I toured the Porsche facotoy in 1996 in Stuggart. Never have I seen such pride of workmanship or dedication to quality. After 4-6 years as apprentices, the workers are masters & perform meticulously for 40+ years.

"Fantastic car. Ive owned a 944 Turbo, WRX, BMW M3 prior to my 911, and only the 944 compares in the handling department. Very responsive, loud and visceral. Doors close like a bank vault. Materials last and last. Always getting looks. Not the fastest, but definetley the sweetest engine I've ever heard. Loves to rev and rev.
Leaks a little oil. Expensive to keep, but worth it. No other affordable car can compare."
