Forget the plastic-clad Grand Ams of the past; the
2009 Pontiac G6Coupe and Convertibe are two-door beauties that are sleek, sophisticated and built for driving. Available in two trims on the Coupe (the sportier being the new GXP), and a single
Convertible trim (GT), the G6 targets import buyers who want a bit more flair but don't want to break the budget. While not up to the overall standards set by the
Honda Accord, the G6 Coupe and Convertible definitely present strong competition for the Mitsubishi Eclipse and
Ford Mustang V6.
The base 2.4-liter engine can be teamed with a new six-speed automatic transmission producing better performance and fuel economy. XM Satellite Radio is made standard on the base model, while remote start is added to the GT trim.
The GTP trim is replaced by the all-new GXP, which features a unique front end, performance suspension and a 252-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine. XM Satellite Radio, front seat side-impact airbags and OnStar are made standard on all G6 coupes.
An all-new 3.6-liter V6 is added to the GTP trim. It features variable valve timing and dual overhead cams, produces 252 horsepower and is teamed to a six-speed automatic transmission. Head-curtain side airbags are standard on all trims.
