Pros: "looks nice, easy to drive,"

Cons: "mpg, ride, cheap parts/non-quality parts"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 2

"I got my alero about 5 years ago with about 130K miles on it. At the time I got it, I had to replace the wheel bearings, rotors and new brakes on it. That wasn't that bad because that was all that needed to be done to it since I got it at an auction. HOWEVER, every year I spent $1000+ on it due to the same braking issues. I replaced my wheel bearings almost every year. The ABS was/has always been a problem for me on this. The ride quality is bearable on this car but you can tell this car is cheaply built. On the lighter side, I have never had engine or transmission problems other than having to replace the valve cover gaskets and an ignition coil. I have had to replace tie rods and put new struts on but that is understandable since I have well over 200k miles on my car currently. You will run into a lot of electrical issues with this car and rust is definitely common with aleros (that's if you live predominately up north with alot of snow). Besides the braking and electrical issues on this car, it can last a fair amount of time. I do all my oil changes myself and other routine maintenance. I use full synthetic oil and I noticed immediately how much of a difference the car runs, performs, and lasts if use that type of oil. Other than that this car is ok. It would be worth the money if not for the main issues stated before."

Pros: "decent pricing alot of fun to drive"

Cons: "rear seat arent kid friendly. buckets seats"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Has all the room for a family of 4/5, yet all the looks and power of a sports car. Great all around car. Although the rear seats aren't designed for young kids. They set to low for kids to be able to view the passing scenes."

Cons: "Faulty electrical system!"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1

"This Oldsmobile Alero has been a LEMON from the day I got it! Good pick-up, but a faulty electrical system! First the car wouldn't start due to a problem with the 'security' system, and the Dealer couldn't fix it. Next, the turn signals broke, then the drivers window assebmly broke, then the every light on the dashboard stayed on all the time."

Pros: "plenty of power, decent handling"

Cons: "interior is not the sturdiest"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"It is what it is.... It is not a Porsche, but for the price and the overall cost of ownership, the 6 Cyl version can move, is comfortable enough for a 6'2" guy and his dog to travel cross country without wanting to kill anyone, and looks decent even at 14 years of age."

Pros: "reliable"

Cons: "gas mileage was about 20 mpg, not bad."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I can confidently say that If I had changed the timing belt on this car, it may have lasted another 60,000 miles or more. My 2003 Alero was 3 years old and very reliable, and never had any major problems, so no major work was ever done. I neglected to change the timing chain, and when it broke. I was told it damaged the pistons which damaged the interference engine, and with 200+ miles, it would not be worth fixing. But even after this timing belt broke, it still drove for 2 miles and right into my garage. I had 3 mechanics look at it and confirm it was the timing belt that broke and couldn't believe I drove it home and in my garage. It was the most reliable car for me for 7 years, and 3 years for previous owner."
