Cons: "Faulty electrical system!"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 1

"This Oldsmobile Alero has been a LEMON from the day I got it! Good pick-up, but a faulty electrical system! First the car wouldn't start due to a problem with the 'security' system, and the Dealer couldn't fix it. Next, the turn signals broke, then the drivers window assebmly broke, then the every light on the dashboard stayed on all the time."

Reasonably fast and fun

Pros: "plenty of power, decent handling"

Cons: "interior is not the sturdiest"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"It is what it is.... It is not a Porsche, but for the price and the overall cost of ownership, the 6 Cyl version can move, is comfortable enough for a 6'2" guy and his dog to travel cross country without wanting to kill anyone, and looks decent even at 14 years of age."

All around great car! Fast and solid.

I owned and sold this car
Reason: I neglected to change the timing chain and damaged the interference engine

Pros: "reliable"

Cons: "gas mileage was about 20 mpg, not bad."

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I can confidently say that If I had changed the timing belt on this car, it may have lasted another 60,000 miles or more. My 2003 Alero was 3 years old and very reliable, and never had any major problems, so no major work was ever done. I neglected to change the timing chain, and when it broke. I was told it damaged the pistons which damaged the interference engine, and with 200+ miles, it would not be worth fixing. But even after this timing belt broke, it still drove for 2 miles and right into my garage. I had 3 mechanics look at it and confirm it was the timing belt that broke and couldn't believe I drove it home and in my garage. It was the most reliable car for me for 7 years, and 3 years for previous owner."

Pros: "Nice looking style, handles well, low maintenance"

Cons: "Some road noise inside"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"In the 7 years I have had it, it has not needed any mechanical work. I have only had to purchase new tires and routine oil changes. The back seat folds down which is a great asset for transporting long objects and baggage, groceries, etc. I did add a rear spoiler which did not come standard on this edition. The only thing I would change is that there is some road noise inside, so it is not quite as quiet inside as I would like. The car looks sporty (even with 4 doors) and friends have likened it to a Mustang in looks."

Was a GOOD Deal!

Pros: "Great price, fast, good on gas"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"Purchased my 2003 Alero in 2004....was a program car with low mileage....have driven it for 10 years.....normal everyday use...love that the back seats fold down...giving me the capacity of a little SUV...love that! Great on gas as long as you change the oil regularly. I REALLY like my ALERO...a very popular car in New Mexico."
