2019 5-Year Cost to Own Awards: Best Luxury Subcompact SUV/Crossover

2019 Lexus UX

Best Luxury Subcompact SUV/Crossover: 2019 Lexus UX

The all-new Lexus UX offers entry-level and first-time luxury buyers the chance to benefit from a versatile, fuel-efficient sporty subcompact luxury SUV with the comfort of knowing it's backed by Lexus' reputation for reliability and resale value. Another plus: the Lexus UX also boasts best-in-class 5-Year Cost to Own numbers.

The UX is the smallest and most affordable vehicle in the Lexus line. Despite the relatively low price tag, there's a variety of trim levels to choose from and two powertrains, allowing shoppers to choose the level of luxury they desire. And every Lexus comes with a variety of tech and lux standard features, ensuring that a Lexus driver won't feel deprived. One of the most impressive standard features, Lexus Safety System+ 2.0, comes with adaptive radar cruise control, an automatic emergency braking system that can detect pedestrians in front of the car, lane-departure warning with steering assist, and a system that reads road signs.

You can choose from a gasoline-powered UX (200) or a hybrid (250h). While both are efficient, with the standard model netting up to 37 mpg, the hybrid attains fuel economy as high as 41 mpg and is more powerful. An F Sport model is offered, but as we noted in our 2019 Lexus UX review, "Neither of these models will win many races nor get you very far off-road. But that's not the point of the UX. Where Lexus' smallest SUV excels is tooling around the city, which it does comfortably."

With a $32,000 starting price, the 2019 UX is an ideal way to start down the Lexus path. The SUV offers luxury value at an excellent price point, and the value of the UX is bolstered by its excellent low-cost-to-own data.
