"Inherited a Turbo XR2 from Dad. Only 11,700K. 35 MPH highway. Disappointing turbo lag but zips along once it spins up. Typical lousy 1991 build quality. Mushy brakes. Knarly torque steer. Comfy, roomy interior / storage. Simple top. Clean top down lines.
Turning it into an Aussie Club Sprint copy: Aftermarket front air dam, CS tail/lights, skirts, MSR 113 17"x7" rims will transform it from cute to classy. Forthcoming engine mods will spank some sport compacts. All for less than what the car's worth (surprisingly about 5K? apparently). Peppy, enormous fun to drive (and easy to park!). A keeper!"
"This car is a classic. I would never sell this car. It as reliable today as the day I drove it off the lot in 1992. They never should have stopped making this car. I take good care of my car and it will be 18 years old and still looks like new to this day."
"I have had my capri xr2 for over 10 years. I use it for my family. I have had this car before my 4 children and still have it today. Its 2008 now and she has 89k miles her. Never has left me stranded. The top is a bit of a hassle I even have the hard top for it. Easy to install. I love to pass the little mustangs in it. They catch up to me eventually. Lots of get up and go. Im 30 years old and still feel 20 again in it. I have a huge stereo system that i feared would be to much for the alternator to handle and she has proven me wrong again. I hope I will be able to give this to my 10 year old daughter when she is 16 to pass on. Fun car, excellent time."
"I bought mine 3rd hand in 1998 with 106,000 miles on it. I still have it. It gets amazing gas mileage, it's pretty quick , you can just push the gas pedal down without downshifting to pass someone. The ac finally lost it's charge after 16 years , and I had it converted to 134 . Fog light bulbs aren't easy to find. Seat material is weak at best.
Engines are reliable provided you don't overheat it and change the oil. And it has the usual broken top latch handles , as well as a power window switch that's failing."
