The 2017 Kia Forte lineup gets a solid update this year to the 4-door sedan and 5-door Kia Forte5hatchback. New styling makes the two look like miniaturized versions of the larger Optima sedan; this is a good thing. Under the hood, the base 1.8-liter engine has been replaced with a larger, but more fuel-efficient 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. And both the Forte sedan and Forte5 get upgrades to technology, including enhanced driver-assist systems, and a new infotainment system that incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Put it all together and you have a comprehensive compact-car lineup that goes head-to-head with the Honda Civic, Chevy Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda3 and many others with multiple body styles, good looks and surprising levels of refinement.
Revised styling makes the 2017 Kia Forte sedan and Forte5 hatchback look like the larger Optima sedan. New driver-assist technology includes automatic emergency braking and forward-collision warning, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available. There's a new 2.0-liter base engine, and Forte5 SX models get a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The 2016 Kia Forte lineup expands this year with the addition of a new lower-end LX model for the 2016 Forte5 hatchback. Additionally, all LX models get standard keyless entry. Other changes include navigation available on the EX Premium Package, upgraded audio and a few new colors and wheels.
After a complete redesign last year, the 2015 Kia Forte lineup gets slightly better fuel economy in LX and EX sedans. Additionally, the rear backup camera is now optional as part of the $900 UVO package, rather than a standard feature on EX models.
For 2013, the
Kia Forte receives only minor changes. There are new 16-inch wheels for the Koup and 5-door, while power-folding side mirrors are added to the EX and SX trims. All models receive a low washer-fluid warning light, and LED daytime running lights are offered on the EX and made standard on the SX.
The 2012 Kia Forte sedan and hatchback see a 1-mpg improvement in city fuel economy and 2-mpg increase in their highway figures, boosting overall mileage to 26 city/36 highway when equipped with the 2.0-liter engine and 6-speed automatic transmission.
Two six-speed transmission choices are new for 2011: a six-speed manual and a six-speed Sportmatic automatic with manual shift mode. A new navigation radio is offered on the mid-level EX and top-level SX trims, while a five-door model joins the Forte Sedan and Koup.
With the introduction of the 2010 Forte, Kia has moved another chess piece across the threshold of style and perceived quality that typically separates a category's successful veterans from its revolving name-changers.
