Jeep purists never got over the loss of the original Cherokee, so it's no surprise the
2010 Jeep Commander bears a striking resemblance to the former's beloved and boxy design. Unlike the old Cherokee, the Commander offers far better interior accommodations, including a third-row seat. The Commander is Jeep's largest
SUV to date and, although it shares much of its chassis and suspension with the Grand Cherokee (as well as the availability of a HEMI V8 engine), no one will ever mistake the two. While the Commander doesn't offer the same cargo space as a full-sized
Chevrolet Tahoe or
Ford Expedition, it should suit most families looking for a workable combination of comfort, power and superior off-road ability.
For 2010, Limited trims now have as standard a 5.7-liter V8, power rear liftgate and body-colored exterior mirrors. The Overland trim has been dropped from the Commander line up, as has the 4.7-liter V8 engine.
Changes for 2009 include more power and better fuel economy with the 5.7-liter HEMI V8, and the addition of tire pressure monitoring system information to the instrument cluster. New options include auto-leveling HID headlamps, rain sensing wipers and new Leather Appearance Package.
"We bought this vehicle new. This was our 6th jeep. Had ball joint replaced under 10k, vehicle had stalling issues that were repaired, had to replace all 4 brakes and rotors by 20000 miles due to major vibrations when braking. Air bag light comes on while driving or stopped . This light is the warning light between the tach and speedometer. When on airbags WILL NOT DEPLOY!!No one could figure out why. Most recent vehicle wouldn't start after driving it to the store and finally just turned over. Vehicle is now a lemon. If chrysler would have tried to right us we'd buy new again...not now. I personally would not buy a 2006 commander. One of the highest lemoned vehicles."
"I love this thing! Originally purchased an 06 in 08 for my wife and child. Been on the road ever since. Wife loved it so much that she wanted a NEW one in which they didnt make anymore. Used 09 was what she got and loves it.
06 is the 4.7 (v8) with 220k and I did replace a radiator hose about 1 month ago and that has been the ONLY thing done. Bushings are starting to make noise in the front. I have not done anything but standard maintenance and 1 radiator hose.
09 is the 5.7 Hemi Limited and has been great since we owned it. Still low miles on it so not much to say on longevity.
Cons--- As mentioned before the cloth seats stain easy and do need a professional cleaning every so often. Gas mileage could be better on both. 14-18 mpg, 16.2mpg towing a focus 450 miles. Dealer replaced the Nav center in the 09 (1000 dollar fix) we had warranty. So check that before purchasing one!!"
Pros: "It fíts in my Garage, and has lost of Room"
