With its 3-row seating, spacious cargo bay and handsome styling, Chevrolet’s 2017 Traverse crossoverSUV makes an ideal family vehicle. Although it lacks more advanced driver-assist systems found on the Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer, the Traverse is still safe, competent and desirable. Mimicking the ride height and family-hauling abilities of the larger Tahoe SUV, the Traverse outmaneuvers its sibling with a more sedan-like ride and better handling. Although the V6-powered Traverse crossover SUV can’t haul or pull like a Tahoe can, it can tow up to 5,200 pounds. Not as fresh or fuel-efficient as some newer competitors, the Traverse still offers such desirable features as 7- or 8-passenger seating, a big cargo hold behind the 3rd-row seat and an exceptionally quiet cabin.
Chevrolet’s 2017 Traverse SUV is relatively unchanged from last year, with an all-new 2018 model set to debut next year. Last year’s LTZ is replaced by the Premier trim while a new, lower-priced base LS 1SM is introduced.
The 2016 Traverse soldiers on for another year with minimal updates. All models now include GM's OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with built-in Wi-Fi that makes the Traverse a rolling hotspot (subscription required after 3-month trial). A new package adds leather seating, blind-spot monitoring and other features to the mid-trim LT.
For 2014 the Traverse adds twin USB ports for 2nd-row passengers to keep electronic devices powered up. Forward-collision alert and lane-departure warning are added to the Traverse's roster of safety features.
The 2013 Chevrolet Traverse has a design freshening that's most notable in the front fascia. The new Traverse also features the MyLink infotainment system and what Chevy says is the industry's first front-center airbag.
While closely related to the Saturn Outlook,
GMC Acadia and
Buick Enclave, the Traverse puts Chevrolet's own spin on the popular platform and represents the company's first foray into the full-size
crossover segment. GM's most visible brand hopes to draw in loyalists as well as new customers looking for that unique Chevrolet combination of affordability, reliability and sportiness.
