Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab

About Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup finds itself in a styling and power war not only with rivals like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500, but Nissan’s new Titan and Toyota’s Tundra. Even with its recent styling upgrades, the Silverado’s look remains tastefully conservative, which for many truck buyers is a good thing. For these folks, the measure of a pickup’s value is in how much it can haul, tow and carry. Chevrolet’s Silverado has a higher trailering rating than the Tundra, and a host of new safety features to challenge the F-150. Unlike the Ram and Titan, the Silverado doesn’t offer the option of diesel engine, but its choice of three powerful gasoline engines helps keep the price down without sacrificing power or capability.

Preferring to deploy its "Two-Mode" hybrid technology in large, heavy vehicles first to optimize per-vehicle fuel savings, GM rolled it out last year in Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade full-size SUVs and adds Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups for 2009. This technology doesn't come cheap, but it makes these easily the market's most fuel-efficient full-sizers.

"First dealership bought vehicle. Absolutely love this truck! The only thing I would change would be to add at least 1 or 2 vents in the back of the cab."

Pros: "Towing, fuel economy, low interior sound level."

Cons: "Take-off from stop is odd, Apple/Android interface"

"2016 5.3 LT 4x4 Extended Cab 6 1/2' bed Got a great deal so bought new cheaper than used. I'll start with the "bad" and this is really nit-picking. When taking off from a stop, it feels like it is in too high of a gear and I need to give it more pedal than I would expect. It's really not a problem and now that I've had it a while I'm used to it. The good - It is ridiculously quiet inside. It's more quiet than my wife's Audi! It tows like a boss. I tow an ~ 6000 lb enclosed trailer over mountains without issue. Non-towing fuel economy is very good. I average ~ 21mpg @80 mph. I have 13,000 miles on it and zero troubles so far. It has Apple Car Play and Android Auto but I don't really care for them that much. Their development is not ready for prime time in my opinion. You have to connect with the USB cable and you can only use a few apps. For navigation, you're limited to Google Maps which is OK but the routing isn't as good as Waze. Suspension and ride is pretty good - it's comfortable to spend long distances in but you won't mistake it for a sports car - but hey, this is a truck. Overall the truck has exceeded my expectations and I'm very happy with my purchase. I would buy it again."

First Chevy since 1988

Pros: "Styling, MPG, Great ride and build quality"

Cons: "Cloth seats are dated and 5.3 needs a little tweak"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I had not owned a Chevy truck since 1988, and that one was my 1968 show truck so how much of the Chevy DNA left in it was a debatable point. The fact that I even went and looked says much to the styling of the truck. having owned more Fords than any other truck, my friends would and will raise more than one eyebrow over this purchase and having traded in my much beloved '09 Ram made my wife do more than that! The build quality is excellent, with all the panels tight and aligned, the Red Hot paint flawless and a real eye catcher. What I like: Styling, and ride comfort. For a Z71 4x4 it rides almost on par with the Ram even though it was a 4x2. The seating position is more comfortable in the Silverado in part do to the telescoping wheel which helps long legged people like me. The interior is well thought out and the controls and gauges all easily identified and operated. Fuel economy is fantastic, I am averaging 21 plus so far and expect that grow slightly as the drivetrain breaks in. What I don't like: The 5.3 liter lacks the instant response of the Ram's 5.7 hemi and could use some tweaking. It is powerful once it gets moving but you will have to mash the pedal to move out quickly from a dead stop. The six speed hunts for a gear sometimes especially when pulling at highway speeds on cruise. The cloth seats need updated coverings. The current one looks dated and cheap when one factors this is a $54k truck. Overall: I bought it and I admit I love it! For a guy who bashed the bow-tie for years that says it all. I give GM kudos for making a truck that reminds me why I loved my '68 so much."
