"When I bought my 2006 LT coupe model, it was moderately damaged in the front part of the car (Salvaged at 34k miles). There was no damage to the motor, transmission (5-gear manual), or frame, except for the radiator; mostly cosmetical. This review is not based for the automatic version model of the car.
The value of this car at the time of purchase was about $9-11K. I invested a total 5,500 after taxes. This can only tell you how affordable the maintenance of this car is after having it moderately fixed. Never go to the dealer, they will tax you hard on repairs.
Got it fixed up real good and 7 years later, I still own it at 110,00k miles and still running strong (Planning to change cars very soon though). The car got me through high school and college, and has also gotten me through a year of my professional career. Made a few cosmetical and mechanical modifications to the car, as well as upgrading the sound system to a third party sound system with 2 12" sub woofers (trunk area is HUGE!). Motor and transmission are still unbelievably intact and well sounding. Still riding very smooth.
A few things have gone bad on the vehicle, but they are as expected such as the battery and both front wheel bearings. Couple of buttons here and there, as well as the regular light bulbs, but never nothing critical. Maintenance for the car is very affordable and easy to perform if you know where to get your replacement parts and where to get your services done. Never spent more than $100 on quarterly maintenance(oil, liquids, etc). I've only had to change my brakes 2 times and performed the installation myself. Excellent in gas as well. 31mpg highway and 26-27mpg in City in my case with a sport aftermarket air filter. Very reliable car if well maintained and taken care of. I still think the design of the car is very appealing and sporty looking (coupe with oem spoiler). Not ashamed to sit and ride in this car at all. Interior is mostly plastic, but hey, I'm glad this was my first car. Performance is as expected for a motor of this caliber and is extremely respondent (again its a manual car; can't speak for auto)
Overall, I am extremely happy and satisfied with this car. I would recommend to any high school or college student thinking reliability and affordability. 5-speed manual has been a thrill to drive even in such a small car. I dont think I will ever go to a auto trans."
"This was my first call I purchased on my own. I wasn't too sure about it at first when it had an issue with the fuel sensor. The gas gauge would go from full to empty randomly at times.
This issue was fixed within the first year at long last and the car had no issues for quite a bit after that. The car is a workhorse honestly. I drove it quite a bit the first year, putting 30k on it quickly. After that, it slowly accumulated miles. It really didn't begin getting miles until it was 6 years old.
Of a 9 year old car, it still rides rather well. I have had a few issues here and there with mostly wear and tear issues. Beyond the fuel sensor issue at the beginning, it hasn't had a lot of work done to it.
One thing I do dislike is the room in it. This car is a coupe body but even so, it feels smaller than the 4 doors. Even the 4 doors are small but at least have a slight bit more room than the coupes.
I do love to still drive this car. It is fun to take on the back roads or take down the highway."
"This car has stopped while driving numerous times. Even after the recalls have been fixed. There are very serious issues with the power steering and electrical system in these cars. I have 54 pages of consumers who are having the same exact issues we are with this car. Obviously it is not just one bad Cobalt, but many."
Pros: "Comfortable, Good mileage, Great to get around"
Cons: "Slow, didnt like the color"
Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 9
"Financed this car to boost my credit up and to have something to take me around, ended up being a heck of a vehicle, love the mialge, filled up everytime with less than 30 dollars. Drove to tallahassee from miami a couple of times with no problems and also to orlando. Looking for a camaro or mustang now, time to upgrade!"
"I bought this car in 2009 and have had it ever since. I use it for work every day and I can go to work a for approximately 8 days without fueling up. its a 45 mile round trip. I love this car but my spouse hates it cause of the space and the rear its a little bit higher than the front. But, other than that I plan to keep it till it falls apart."
