Consensus: A well-crafted, comfortable SUV wrapped in Space Age sheetmetal

A comfortable, reliable refuge from the stresses of the world.

The Lexus RX has an edgy new look, but at its core, Lexus' best-selling model focuses more on ride comfort, refinement and a quiet cabin than on having the driving dynamics of a sports sedan. This generation was completely redesigned with more power and more features, and the Lexus Safety System+ suite of safety features has been made standard. The RX's successful combination of all-season traction and plenty of room for people and their gear has helped build a highly loyal fan base that returns year after year.

Driving It

From our full review of the 2018 Lexus RX: "The 2018 Lexus RX 350 remains a luxury SUV that places an emphasis on comfort and confidence over blistering performance. The ride is smooth and the interior is quiet, isolating you from the harsh world outside its leather-lined interior. This is an SUV you can drive for hours with little fatigue."

RX Hybrid

Lexus has offered a hybrid option for the RX for more than a decade. The all-wheel-drive-only RX 450h is just as fast to 60 mph as the RX 350 and has a range of 516 miles. Its fuel economy is 31 mpg around town -- compared to 19 for the regular AWD RX -- and it gets 28 mpg on the highway.

Lexus RX L

New for 2018 is the addition of the 6- or 7-passenger Lexus RX L. These models come standard with a power-folding third-row seat and tri-zone climate control. The RX L will be available with a gas or hybrid powertrain.

F Sport

If you want a little more attitude in your RX, there's the Lexus RX F Sport. In addition to cool styling cues including unique wheels, grille and interior, the RX F Sport offers a sport-tuned suspension and paddle shifters.
